      Top Gear Teething Problems!
Clarkson, May & Hammond must be laughing their socks off.
I was never a great fan of Chris Evans, but as a British celebrity 'petrol-head' - how many cars does he have in his personal fleet? - I could see why the BBC chose him as the new 'front-man' for Top Gear.  However, there seem to have been a number of 'teething problems' getting the new show off the ground - unfortunately I can't find anything about this on the BBC website  :D:
      • First thing to go wrong was, Evans' chosen producer Lisa Clark, "a friend he worked with more than 20 years on The Big Breakfast left last month, briefly returned and then quit again".   :(
      • Second, the team which replaced Tom Ford and Andy Wilman and other members of the Top Gear team who have defected to follow Clarkson, May and Hammond to Amazon, don't seem to know a lot about cars and have allegedly been asking Top Gear magazine staff for advice on which cars to feature.   ::)
      • Unfortunately, unlike 'motor-mouth' Clarkson, or even May and Hammond, Evans is reported not to be able to talk and drive at the same time!   ;D
      • The one thing that might have saved the new show was the appointment of racing driver Sabine Schmidt as Evans' Co-Presenter.  She could have become the Vicky Butler-Henderson of the new Top Gear.  Unfortunately, when she drove Evans round the Mazda Racetrack at Monterey in an Audi R8 she drove too fast for him.  He had to ask her to stop so he could get out and be sick!   :o
As a result the BBC still "doesn't yet know when the new series will be screened".   :(

Well, it was never going to end well................if the BBC were trying to follow the pattern set by Andy Wilman and the presenters. Top Gear, under Wilan, was about three middle aged blokes c**king about.........and the cars were the backdrop; it was not a 'pure' car show.

Trying to copy that format again would look silly: I mean if Top Gear [insert country here] doesn't work without Wilman, Clarkson, May and Hammond, why would the BBC think it would work again in the UK? As for having a production team that appears to know nothing about cars? Well, that certainly sounds like the BBC.

My two pence worth: I think the BBC is better off developing a new format for Top Gear.

As entertaining as Chris Evans is, he does not come across as a petrolhead. In fact, Brian Johnson of AC/DC fame, would be a better host. His "Cars That Rock" series showed he clearly loved cars and could drive and presernt as the same time! He came across as a genuinely likeable person. It's a shame he ruled himself out of the running. Besides, his day job keeps him busy!

But, I will give Top Gear a watch when it finally does come back.

Drives: an original SE6 auto, 93,000 miles (approx) and still going strong......(but some work is needed!).

Clearly not, although he has a collection of classic cars estimated to be worth millions (although an attempt to sell half of his collection at Goodwood Historic Car Auctions a little while ago failed):

I'm guessing the employment of Sabine Schmidt was an attempt to inject a more serious motoring element in to the programme - obviously too serious for Chris Evans!

He is one of the most annoying people on TV! Urgh....
Lewis Hamilton said that winning his first race felt better than having sex. Kimi's reply to that was, Maybe he never had sex.

Agreed, he was always intensely irritating, on Radio or TV.  I never did understand what so many people seemed to see in him.  What was that ghastly programme he used to present on tv on Friday nights?

Looks like even TG might have to be dumbed down to his level, if it is possible to 'dumb down' after Jeremy!  :D

Saturday's Times had a report that Eddie Jordan might join the Top Gear team! Arghh, no no no!!!  :(  He is irritating enough when you watch F1! I am starting to think I may never watch the new Top Gear - Evans and Jordan together would spoil my supper!!!

Finally got to watch the final two Top Gear tests last night with James and Richard presenting sans Jeremy. Bloody funny! The BBC haven't got a hope in hell without those three. Though I did note in the 250 pound SUV test Jeremy shouting "I hate working on Top Gear". I wonder if that was a premonition or if the "incident" had already happened by that stage?

The trailer for new TG is running now, I haven't seen it and have no on intention of watching.

The 'boys' all the way for me!

I don't think Clarkson had is crystal ball out tbh, he says quite a few things like that, some going back years.

I have seen it.  It's OK, lot's of dramatic clips that give no indication what the programme will actually be like, or the personalities involved.

Not for me as long as I would have to pay for it - they were barely worth watching, let alone paying for.

I've just heard that Chris Evans is stepping down from TG at the end of the first series, after viewing figures slumped to under 2m last night Sunday.  That's a bit stupid because it was competing with the Iceland v France game.  It just shows how out of touch Aunty Beeb is with the kinds of people who enjoy cars and football!  Still, personally, I won't be sorry to see the back of Chris Evans, I never did really like him and on TG he was, as so many people commented, just far too 'SHOUTY'!

I think the investigation of sexual assault had much more to do with it!

OMG Do you?  Do you think he was 'pushed', or did he 'jump'?
