What engine does the b204 come out of?

I am not looking for something that breaks the sound barrier as we have got more and more of those average speed cameras near me now but I want to be able to move away at roundabouts etc with a little more go.

It's from the late 900s and the 98-00 Saab 9-3s. NOT the B204 from the 9000s. Look for the red DI cassette.

There used to be a forum but now there's a HUGELY helpful Facebook group ( and they'll answer you anything you need as you ponder. Need the ECU re-flashing and a loom adapter making, and several members there will do that by post for you. If you fancy, my car's build thread follows:

Ive had a retop....very nice engine...bit of a legend now....I have also had a Ecotek auto....more power then the 8v....but the last 2 calibras have been 8v`s.....low down touque is nice...but not that quick....I agree  with Wills though...8v`s will go on forever when looked old one had been to the moon and back..200,000k

My SE6 auto 8v is on..............81,461miles  ;D What can I say it had 50k on her when I bought her in 2007 So I want to keep her original.

But back to topic, I like the sound of that Saab swap. It's different.
Drives: an original SE6 auto, 93,000 miles (approx) and still going strong......(but some work is needed!).

Well having had it up on a ramp this morning the good news is it's not too bad underneath with no major rot.

So it's a time for some tlc, get the sunroof fixed then while I am driving around start thinking about that engine and do I keep it or swap it.

In the meantime I will see how I get on with the 8v.
