Rust issues
« on: July 03, 2016, 19:13:16 PM »
Hi everyone I've got some serious rust where the rear bumper attaches near the wheel arch on both sides.

My question is how would a bodyshop fix this, is it just as easy as cutting it out and welding a new patch of metal in or will it require a donor car to cut the rear quarter? It seems to be in an awkward place with metal overlapping so not sure.

I would really love to save this K reg RedTop however I feel the more sensible option would be to find a later car to drop the engine in.

Thanks

Just cut it out and weld in new patch you will need panel beating skills how ever it is worse than it looks

Any bodyshop can fix that without any real problems, it's not a tricky part of the body, a few patches and should be as good as new.

As the area is normally hidden behind the bumper it would be a good place to have a practice yourself (if you have a welder) that way it dosent have to be pretty  ;)
Unfortunately a lot of these older callys seem to go on the rear arches.

I've agreed to sell the engine to my brothers friend who has an escort, he assures me an engine transplant can be done?

Sorry mate my electric mirrors haven't worked since I got the car.

Is the roof lining any good? If so, would be interested in that.

Also, some bits of interior trim and alloys, if they are Vaux :)
