Water Temperature?
« on: May 22, 2006, 09:12:10 AM »
My 1993 redtop has a "problem": the temp gauge barely rises above the blue mark during normal running. It made it as far as the quarter mark in Nottingham a few weeks back and blew the main coolant hose!

I was told that the car had had a porous head a couple of years back which was replaced, but the header tank and hoses still have traces of mayonaise in them - does this weaken the rubber of the hoses?

I'm going to change all the hoses for silicone items once i've flushed the entire system through properly, but for now i'm curious as to why the temp gauge is so low. Could the gunk from the porous head have blocked the thermostat, stopping it from working properly?

This isn't a major problem for me... more a cause of concern at the moment.

Any ideas, folks?

Mine is exactly the same , needle hardly moves and only ever gets to just under 1/4  if it's driven long enough , I put it down to quirks or the red top as it doesn't seem to over heat but if anyone knows different ????

If you have to own a Calibra; make sure it's the 4x4 turbo. You dont want to fanny around with a FWD car.
