Rocker gasket help

i need to change the rocker gaskets on both sides I'm looking on eBay and i see a set for

I'm going to get some new head bolts also is it worth buying new from vauxhall with original bolt heads or just settle for some from eBay with torx heads what do ya reckon

You will need 4 gaskets to change on the V6, 2 per bank.

And the gaskets don't come cheap, you can pay up to

Why do you need new headbolts ?

i just didnt fancy them snapping when i do them back up where they are getting on a bit, and i need 4 gaskets just for the rockers on the front and back madness cheers

Headbolts are not used to tighten down rocker covers , they are M6 bolts

u only need to torque them up to 6NM, so shouldnt snap them

i will have to get around to having a look under the bonnet im just going by what different have been telling me hence me asking the question and getting different feedback thanks

Here's a pic of the cam covers.



8 M6/8 type bolts to undo on each cover, pull off cam cover, pull off old gasket and renew, re-fit cover and torque bolts down to 6NM

i was thinking that it was one cover on the front side and one on the rear side now i can see they are two per head cheers for that pic i should of just gone and had a look really theres me thinking i have a good photographic memory obviously not he he early days yet

Actually no, there are only 2 cam covers, 1 for each bank and each cam cover has 2 gaskets.

The gaskets cover the inlet/exhaust cams (2 of each)

You wont see much of the rear bank because the inlet manifold will be in the way.

Its not a hard job to do, hardest bit will be removing the inlet manifold, once done you can change the gaskets and do the rear set of plugs as well  :)

As for Santa pod, not sure yet.
