Rev counter gone nuts, car back firing
« on: June 09, 2006, 15:52:54 PM »

One problem I sometimes see on this website is, when someone has a problem they don't aways share how they fixed the issue.

My problem was...

When driving, the ECU light would come on.
Rev needle would bounce up and down right over the speedo.
Engine would backfire and run very lumpy

Cause of the problem....

Spark plug leads.

Fixed problem by

Replace spark plug leads supplied by Autovaux.
Leads cost 19 pounds

I hope that helps someone else out.

Gaurages say it was caused by the knock sensor. I replaced this and it didn't fix it.

If you have to own a Calibra; make sure it's the 4x4 turbo. You dont want to fanny around with a FWD car.
