Replacing Handbrake shoes...

Has anyone done this before? Whats involved any points i shouls take note of? i dont have a haynes manual no more. Cheers

Ive ordered the new shoes and a spring kit.

get one of the holes in the current disc to 12 o'clock look in side you should see a toothed wheel  this slackens off the shoes

Ok but i remove the rear disks first yeah?

thats to slaken of the shoes so that you can get the discs off

Dude, don't suppose you fancy photographing and documenting the process so that we can add an FAQ? If its your first time, you'll approach is as any other new user would so best for you to document it rather than an expert, hehe

this was the first thing i done to my car was change the brakes, the fronts are a doddle its the rears with the auto adjuster that you have to slacken off like i have mentioned that is the hard part

Next week i could do one on

Replacing handbrake shoes

Fitting front suspension - as im having to remove mine to replace top bearings and the securing nut that holds the insert in.

Front engine mounts

Take it i just knock up a word document yeah?

So once the pads have been slackened off i remove the discs and replace the pads.. What about setting the adjustor for the new pads?

to set it back up put it all back together then raise the handbrake 3 clicks adjust the shoes until there is resistance pull the handbrake up another 3 clicks(6 in total) the disc should not move repeat until happy

the sad thing is i didnt have to look in my haynes manual doing the back brakes was so memorable i can remember it like that

Im ok once ive done a job, i'll always remember it. Just like to know what im in for when it comes to something ive not done.
