Oil leak from filler cap on a V6
« on: September 06, 2010, 01:36:59 AM »
Anybody else had this problem?

Been under the bonnet a few times over the past week and had the engine cover off for a few days. I noticed there was a "run" of oil coming down the leading face of the "cam cover/ rocker cover, (whatever we're calling it today)" from the filler. I wiped it away then checked again after a journey in the car. The oil was seeping again. Its not a big leak though over time, it does mount up.

I wondered why the front of the engine has been very oily lately, I put that down to still not fitting steel cam covers and the gaskets leaking again.

Wouldn't have noticed the run from the filler cap if the cover was in place.

Anybody got a spare filler cap in good condition that they don't mind parting with? If poss, I'm going away in the car on Saturday so will need it by Friday.

Maybe the plastic covers are damaged. I sold Angus my alloy cap so he should have a spare standard one :)

P.S. They're called cam covers. They're not called rocker covers because they don't have rockers under them. :)

Thanks for the replies, managed to get one from the scappy. Hopefully it'll be better than the original.

Also checked the "filler hole" and covers, no signs of any damage, etc.

Problem solved, possibly.
