Needle in a haystack
« on: January 04, 2018, 17:53:16 PM »
Hi :)

Day before yesterday I was returning home from shopping trip when a chugging sound started from the engine bay. Pulling up to a stop to investigate the whole car was shaking and vibrating.

When I arrived home .......up went the bonnet.......on first look all seamed ok i.e...all boost hoses sound,....vac hoses sensor plugs adrift and options quickly running short of a solution. :-\

Spent a whole day googling for some hints......causes can be numerous  :o

Came up with a good possibility.........."Missfire seamed the guilty gremlin" back to the engine again.........I first removed the plug cover to check security of HT leads on plugs.....ok so I turned to the HT leads going to dizzy cap.......Bingo 8)

When I pulled Number 1 HT lead plug it came off easily without the usual click sound......and all was revealed.

The centre part of the plug had broken off and was stuck in the socket...........Reason. ....the foookin copper contact inside had parted company and was causing the spark to jump all over the place.. ::) ::)

Moral of the story now is don't always assume the worst and that the engine is foooked..........always examin parts with your eyes more carefully.  Most of the time engine faults can be hiding in plain view.

So with a spare HT lead I had in the garage ..........two clicks and the engine was purring sweetly 8)

Lewis Hamilton said that winning his first race felt better than having sex. Kimi's reply to that was, Maybe he never had sex.
