Mondo's Ongoing Engine Saga...!
« on: October 16, 2006, 11:32:39 AM »
Right, seeing as redtops came with 2 different ignition systems (with dizzy and dizzyless), if I got an engine with a dizzy would I need to change the front cam as well as the dizzy or not???

Mine's dizzyless but I might be getting an engine with a dizzy so wouldn't I need to swap the systems over to get it to run in my car...?

Yeah I believe the cam would actually need changing too.

I would of thought it'd be easier just to get the ECU and coil with the engine and fit the whole lot.

I was planning to dump it straight in the car with as little drama as possible... the guy selling it seems to be a big trader on MigWeb but even so...

This car's starting to get on my nerves now!!

Hopefully going to have a look at a J reg Redtop (full car) tomorrow that needs a clutch...

Ok, been and had a natter with the mechanic who lives over the road and he's advised me to steer well clear of this cambelt-less engine! So I'm off to York tomorrow (hopefully) to inspect this J reg Calibra to see if it's worth getting and raping it for it's good bits!  ;D

God, are these cars really worth this much hassle?!

I have 227K on mine mate and still runs as good as new so don't let the 135K put you off.

I am now the proud (?) owner of a 1992 Cally Redtop!

It's painted in bronze metallic (same colour as Nige's Cally, I think), 131,000 miles, has a ludicrous spoiler on the bootlid (which won't be going on my car at all!), has a full Magnex stainless system on it, 17" wheels with Yokohamas all round and the sunroof works!!!

As it's been bought to rape for parts for mine, I think

My K reg is simply in far better condition all round. There's plenty of bits worth having on this J reg one so it makes more sense to me to transplant what I need and then get rid of the surplus.

thats fair enough i suppose. i'm just one of these people that hate the thought of killing a car. but i've done it myself sometimes u just got to. plus the less of them there is the more rare our good ones become.
