What on earth! How weird, tempted to say that's a very bad earth/electrical problem. No help at all I know  ;D

You’ve either got a broken earth or a stuck relay - you’re going to have to either get an auto electrician or if you’re handy and have a meter, start working your way though main relays, earth links etc until you locate the problem. There’s no textbook fix for the kind of problem you’ve described.

Well, that would cause the engine light to flash while you’re trying to crank the engine. But I’m not sure it explains all the other odd things you described like running on, doors not locking etc. Or is the only problem now light flashing while cranking?

As things stand at the moment I had to disconnect the battery,  when connected the car locks as if the key is in the ignition turned to the first click, could it be some thing to do with the ignition barrel? Is the Clifford alarm wired to the barrel?

Not to the barrel itself but to the switch that’s behind it - yes it likely will be.

any thing is worth a try at the moment, I also noticed damp in the boot around the rear drivers side light , this has been a on and off problem for about a year which I thought I sorted. connected maybe ?

Well if it’s damp and affecting the wiring loom it could well be shorting circuits causing other weird and wonderful effects. I’d suggest drying it all out and making sure there are no wires/connectors that are damp.

Hi Byork

That's the problem when the car body and all metal work forms the negative or earth part of the circuit. Any damp or water ingress will play havoc with the cars electric function.

I aggree you should do as agw9262 suggested .......fix the damp that is effecting electrical circuits.

The source of the damp in the boot could be coming from the drain hose for the sunroof.......you will need to remove the boot wall trim that wraps around from the boot slam panel to the wheel arch and behind it you will see a plastic pipe going into the floor pan.

Sometimes this gets blocked or detatches from the floor pan connector.......so instead of the water passing through the floor pan and exiting under the car.......it is leaking out into the boot area and socking carpets electrical items etc etc.

It may or may not solve your main problem but when fixed will solve damp wet boot conditions.

Hope this will help in some way.

No no Byork mate

You know you don't want to do that..........after all you don't throw a good torch away just because the batteries have gone.   We all have that thought cross our mind.......but we soldier on.......it is really good to find a problem and fix it ourselves........but sometimes it does bite us in the butt.

When all fails with me.......and I cannot fix it after exhausting all Requests .......I calll a mobile car tuner....who are cheaper than one based in a fixed property because by being mobile they can cut the costs.

Some are really good at diagnosing all sorts of problems...and will even fix it for you or advise you of a DIY approach.......they have all the test gear on their vans and even have computer based ......."Auto Data" at hand.

Give the old girl a chance.

Does sound like a earth/wiring problem.....i had a lose earth and the airbag light came on...never ever had that......as above really....water/moisture would not help you.....in the past ive had a few issues too places to check for water.....

1...rear light seals..the rear tail gate gutters let the water run off over the rear lights...especially the top edge....plenty of wiring there and
     a earth connections/door lock wiring

2...Sunroof drains....there are 4 of them...one from each corner of the roof...they wont come off the roof its self but exit at the sills(front
drains)..and at he rear(rear drains)..the pic below shows the rear drain holes near the exhaust hanger in the corner...one for the
boot..one for the sunroof i think...the front drains exit down at he bottom of the front door...I`ll look next time im down the garage.

3....Door seals....the front door has two..the thick rubber one that is at the top of the door etc....look for splits/cracks etc....Also there is
one at the bottom in the door jam...the long one that goes along the bottom inside...I`ve had these fail/fall off..(long black seal at the
bottom of the door in the pic) At the bottom of the door just inside under the plastic cover is the cars loom..(both sides) if the  bottom
door seal has gone water can get in there and drip down into the loom..?

4....Heater matrix....fairly easy one...soggy/damp carpets MAYBE your Heater matrix is weeping/leaking....If so you will lose COOLENT and
the car will be steamy/condensation on the windows(inside)

5....Trunk Drainage/Scuttle area.....Inside the engine bay in the middle is a drainage tube(looks like a elephants trunk hence the name)this
Can become blocked...the wind screen drains into a void at the back of the engine bay then drains out the Trunk...if this area doe not
drain it can cause problems....Rust holes can leak into the cabbin/bulk head...there is two mesh part in the corners of the cover for this
area these can become blocked too...then water find its way to where it should not be....!!

6.....Bulhead...This is between the engine bay and cabbin...protected by sound deadening...this can rust if the above problems exist...and
let in water you may not be able to see this.

7.....Floor Pan....There are various points water might get in....Rubber Grommets...Theres a hand Break Gator....If there missing of perished
       they need looking at...

       (https://s20.postimg.org/m9dns2qhp/Frontrust_zps3avxrfyv.jpg) (https://postimg.org/image/46kl0uumx/)

In the past i have used Kitchen roll tucked into various places like under carpet and near looms to act as a indicator water or moisture has been there at some point.

Defo something going on will have strip the boot out and check them drainage pipes, but I'm starting to think its time for my pride and joy to go, as I'm now out of work and money is tight😢
