Engine stutter V6
« on: May 17, 2006, 19:47:23 PM »
Hi, just recently the engine has begun to go into limp mode,or something similar to it?? The thing is,there ain`t no dash warning light coming on at ANY time.Tried the fault codes and nothing shows up.Seems to happen most when the revs drop, sounds like a tractor for a bit, then if I accelerate hard, the engine kicks in normal again ??? This continues to happen on/off. It this caused by a faulty sensor,if so,why no warning light? Any answers well appreciated.    (96 V6) No serious mods other than enlarged throttle body and powerflow twin exit exhaust........which is nice!

could be something as simple as a faulty spark plug or lead mate causing it to only fire on 5 cylinders instead of 6

have you checked the engine management light comes on when you turn on the ignition, it should illuminate and go out after the car has started looks like an engine block with a lightning bolt going through it, if this isn't lighting up on startup then the bulb has either blown or been removed by someone and needs to be replaced then you will be able to read the codes,
Cheers

May just need a good service?

Could just be bad fueling, change your coolant temp sensor unless you know it to be fairly new.  Also when way your last plug and lead service?.  A few basic things to go for before proper fault finding.

Hi,

Clean the MAF connector.

Use a tiny screwdriver to scrape the connector surfaces clean and then soak in electronics grade contact cleaner (not WD40!)

Leave to dry and re-fit.

If this doesn't fix the problem let me know.

The management light works ok, plugs and leads seem fine too. I do keep the car well serviced also, but may want to get the injectors properly cleaned soon,God knows what state they`re in.Will clean the maf and see what happens.
Last week I had the tie rod ends replaced and wheel alignment set, might be the mechanic has upset something,`cos that seems to be when it started to happen.you`re now asking yourself `how could he have done something when he was only working around the wheels?`....... `cos I found a spanner and a screwdriver under the bonnet the next day (THE DOZY SH*TE) think he was in there to get better access to the tie rods
   Thanks for the feedback
