Engine Problems, Broken Spark Plug, Lack Of Power
« on: September 06, 2010, 11:51:30 AM »
Hi all''  driving the other day i had a loud pop from the engine and a quick smell of burning. i took out spark plugs and one had broke so i replaced all 4 and ht leads. but still the engine is not running right and not all the power is there. a mate seems to think that maybe the head gasket has blown but i have no usual sign of head gasket trouble like oil mixing with water etc. im hoping maybe one of you guys has an idea??..many thanks

If the piece of spark plug has fallen and melted onto the piston like suggested is this a big job to correct?

Maybe the end of a spark plug has fallen into the combustion chamber and melted onto a piston?

Yoy say one of the plugs had broken but don't say how it had broken. Was there a bit missing from the electrode or the ceramic cracked etc?? If a part has broken off in the cylinder then the chances are that it may have damaged/bent a valve causing a misfire due to low compression in which case you would need to lift the cylinder head to check  :(  First though you need to do a compression test to find out if this is the case.
