Engine fooked...?
« on: September 23, 2006, 12:45:29 PM »
Right, so I'm driving around last night, doing about 70mph in 5th gear... pulled out to overtake and the car doesn't really do much apart from make a lot of noise!

Then, when my foot's on the floor, there's this horrific rattling noise coming from the bowels of the engine! This got steadily worse to the point where the car's running rough as anything with very little power at all. No warning lights on the dash at all came on during this.

Went to start it this morning and it took forever to fire up and, when it did, it ran like crap and barely idled! Checked the oil and it looks as if I've been a little remiss and let it run rather low. I'm not even gonna attempt to drive it back to Boro so it's getting abandoned where it is for the time being cos the last thing I need is to break down in the middle of nowhere!

Head gasket appears to be fine as there's nothing mixed in with what bit of oil there is left!

So what do we reckon then? Bottom end knackered or what???

its hard to tell what the problem is, it could be anything, which isant alot of help, i wouldnt think it was the head gasket, maybe worth getting the head pressure tested tho. maybe even sounds like oil pump??

70 in 5th with little oil, sounds like bottom end bearing failure to me.............

Put more oil into it and then try to start. It will knock a bit if bottom end though.

Well, it made it home just about but I think the engine's royally buggered now! If it hasn't seized yet, what am I looking at having to do to get it repaired...?
