Ecotec Cooling Fan - Are there different types?
« on: June 11, 2011, 18:44:31 PM »
I just bought a cooling fan off Ebay (see below) which says its off a P reg Ecotec. This is to replace the seized one in our R reg Ecotec.

Although the GM part number on the frames of each fan are the same, the connectors are different (see below) so i can't do a simple straight swap grr. The new fan has a 2 spade connector plug, whilst on the old fan the connecting wires are soldered on.

Also the original fan has 5 blades whilst the one i've just bought has 7 blades.

Have i got the wrong fan, or did they change between years?

New Fan - 2 spade plug connector

Old Fan - Wires are soldered on
'95 V6 (Diamond Black)
'97 V6 SE9

That old connector looks bodged to me? Also was the new one off one with AC? Can't remember if Cassie has AC?

I think I'd be tempted to cut the wires back and fit spade connectors! Assuming the new fan will physically fit on the housing.
