I need a coolant level sensor for an Ecotec.

The V6 one is different, but is the Redtop one the same as the Ecotecs?

If they have the same header tank I would say they are, but not sure if they can be changed seperately from the tank as iirc they are sealed as part of the tank :)

The coolant level sensor is built into the lid, so it can be swapped between tanks ;)

This was the one i spotted on fleabay. It looks the same but can't be sure unless i buy it and try it lol

Goes to show you learn something new everyday!, I thought it was on the side, not in the cap! :)

Yes, its the long bit attached to the inside of the cap that you can see when you remove it.

There's a little 'float' right at the bottom that goes up and down with the water level. If the water is too low the float drops and it trigger's the low level warning lamp.

You should be able to move it up and down with your hand and the light should go on and off. Except on ours, the warning light stays on all the time. Hence i think the sensor has packed up  ::).

I think i'll buy this one on ebay, and see if it fits.

I think they are the same XE and XEV, you have checked the two wires?

My coolant light stays on constantly as well. Can I just rip the sensor out? Finding a replacement for an XE is just ridiculously hard!

I think if you remove the wiring connector and bridge the two wires with a short piece of wire the light will go out.have done this with the wires for the brake pad light before now as a previous owner didnt replace pad wear sensors and ljght was on all the time

all the short piece of wire does is complete the circuit and puts the light out.

Yep, as above short the pins on the plug out and light will go out. You'll have to visually keep an eye on your coolant level though.

Cant say ive ever been a fan of 'bridging' sensors to get the light off, bad practice in my opinion as they are there for a reason, and sods law you take one out and something happens :(
