Apologies if this has already been addressed - I've done a few searches but not found anything other than little snippets in many different threads. It would be good if there was some kind of definitive list to help anyone in this position, of which I am sure there are many.
So here it is... I've had my 1996 Turbo in storage for the past 8 years. I've started a checklist of things that will need to be done prior to firing her back up again. I am looking for assistance from the fine people of CC to ensure that my list has everything it should have before I start work.
Note: When i stored the car on about 80k miles, it was fine mechanically in all but one area - the steering rack was leaking and to this day still needs replacing. So aside from that, it's things like gaskets, fluids, filters, belts, and seals, that I'm looking at replacing to ensure reliable operation after such a long holiday from being driven.
My list so far - it's only basic, but please scrutinise and suggest additions as appropriate:
Parts Required-Full gasket set
-Timing belt
-Oil Filter
-Oil
-Fuel filter
-Fuel
-Coolant
-Steering rack (already got)
-Hydraulic fluid
-4x4 Pressure accumulator bulb
-Discs & pads
Steps (Basic)Disconnect battery
Hand crank engine to ensure not seized
Drain oil
Remove oil filter
Drain coolant
Remove head
Install gasket set
Replace steering rack & check PAS pump
Drain fuel
Flush fuel system & inspect fuel tank condition & fuel lines
Install new fuel filter
Replace 4x4 pressure accumulator bulb
Reinstall head
Install new timing belt
Install new oil filter
Add coolant
Add hydraulic fluid
Add oil
Add fuel
Reconnect battery
Test fire!
Bring up to operating temperature
Check all systems for leaks
Free-off seized brakes & replace
Check brake lines
Test drive!
Any comments greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
