What option do I take ?
« on: October 12, 2013, 21:39:05 PM »
As you may know my SE6 was damaged while i was at work....

Now Im not going through the inshurence..as i dont want to rock there boat...£23/month fully comp suits me...Ive not got any quotes yet also.

But im looking at halving the problem by getting a replacement door.....now i can get a door from a guy in Sheffield for £30 notes...it needs a colour change to icelandic blue.

Or i can drive 2.3hrs and swap doors with a SE6 thats being set up to race on track....for £10 i need to swap the doors over..

now cash is tight at the moment so im thinking its a no brainer but would like your advice please as what to do for the best.

I'd probably go for the blue one, the other is 20 more plus uve got the hassle and cost of painting it.

I'd get one local and spray it but, you'll use a f*ck site less fuel than me driving 2 odd hours so do a swap  ;D

...unless you use someone else's car?... but if you are sorting the rear quarter and spraying it will make sense to source a door locally as you'll be paying for paint anyway...do it all together and get a better match along that side. It will be less noticeable if there is a slight colour variation due to any fading?

I'd go for the Ice Blue door as it's available, as long as it's in decent condition though...

Saves you the 'time and effort' and 'added costs' of paint and labour, to do both the door and quarter panel...

Simples... ;)

Right time to update this thread.....ok got a door from a donor SE6...took the damaged one off...

Re-fitted the new door....which has halved the work and damage.....

There is a slight fade on the new door but its better...

On the rear panel i gave it a rub down...you can see the darker part where the dint is in the panel...where the "low" spots are.

Out comes the Filler....

Then a quick cover of primer to show how im doing and expose the parts i need to rub down with finer wet n dry as i only had parer down to 400 grit.

I see what you mean by the fade - it matches the rear panel but not the wing. My new wing is in a similar state being a bit more purple than the rest. Good pics.

Good job,

what happened at work? Did you do it or did somebody else bash into it?
