Sealeysonic`s SE6...pre MOT Advisory repairs etc
« on: April 14, 2013, 14:13:49 PM »
Right...this is my  Pre MOT repair thread  ;D

Ok on the last MOT July last year the previous owner matt had these advisory s.

Front anti roll bar Linkage rubber bush deteriorated but no play.....i can do this(replaced one on my old 8v)

Offside Suspension arm rubber deteriorated but not resulting in excessive play...*

Front tyres worn on edges

N/s/f top mount knocking.

Right ive done a ARB link on my old cally...so i can do that. ;)

Offside sus arm rubber.....now ive not done one before....so im thinking of doing both sides..with this item

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WISHBONE-SUSPENSION-ARM-VAUXHALL-OPEL-ASTRA-F-VECTRA-A-CALIBRA-FRONT-RIGHT-LOWER-/370779084706?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3ACalibra&hash=item565427d7a2

How hard is this to do...?

Right next up is the n/s/f top mount knocking....never done one of these....so im thinking this part will do the job...?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Front-Suspension-Strut-Top-Mount-Bearing-for-Vauxhall-Calibra-90-97-/380601102061?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3ACalibra&hash=item589d97eeed

Thanks guys !!

Lower arms are fairly straight forward, 2 bolts into the subframe and the bottom ball joint (assuming you've got the arb link off). More of a brute force job as the ball joint needs persausion to come out and subframe bolts are torqued quite high.

Top bearing isn't the one shown in that ebay link, the pic could be wrong though. You will need to drop the front strut out, easy enough when you have the lower arm off. And then you use spring compressors to dismantle the top part and replace the bearing.

Another part worth checking is the tie rod end adjusters. You'll need the tracking done after changing the parts and no sensible garage will touch a calibra - unless you've replaced and completely freed the track rod end adjusters. Easiest way is to replace them and give the adjusted a good clean up.

Vexorg's pretty much covered what's needed, nothing much there to cause any concern.

You're more than welcome to bring it to the "Calibra halfway house" when you've got the parts & I'll sort it out for you. :)

A healthy sized pack is advised! lol Let us know when you plan to drop down, I saw the one you brought on eBay and thought it looked like a nice one. Not my colour personally but a nice example!

Ah, hobnobs (of the chocolate variety) are also requirements of the Calibra halfway house. Liquorice left here gets returned to it's rightful owner on thier return visit. ;)
