Ever noticed your gearchange is sloppier than a Roman catholic choir boys' arse on St. Patricks day?  ???

Right, stop crying about it. You will need

x2 nylon gear linkage bushes
x1 steel gear linkage pin
x1 steel gear linkage arm

I have no idea where I got these parts from so dont ask. Just search.

Right, remove your standard gear linkage. There's 1x 13mm bolt where the linkage passes through the bulkhead, and you'll need pliers to pull out the plastic linkage pin from the gear selector fork. Then just pull out the main clip in the middle of the linkage mount.

Here's the standard linkage removed...

Cram a screwdriver in the main pivot bush, and twist/pull.

The bush will come out quite easily. Then just push the bush on the opposite side out from behind using whatever fits.

Replace them with nylon bushes, which are much much stiffer. These just press right back in...

Then...

Thats a steel link bar and steel linkage pin (to replace sloppy std plastic ones!). The linkage bar just snaps on and off, it's a ball/socket type joint like your nan's artificial hip. The linkage pin is what holds the linkage to the gearbox selector fork.

Finished and cleaned linkage

Just stick some moly grease in the socket joints (use a cotton bud) and job done, you're now cooler than Jesus.

I just wanna point out, you can get the Nylon bushes from LMF, only cost about a tenner IIRC

handy guide :) another thing to point out though that it may still be sloppy if the ball shaped bush on the gear stick is also worn and has a gap around it, just like mine.  I have already done the above and it is still like stirring yogurt lol.

There is also another way of adjusting your gearbox/gearstick linkage as shown in the link below at the bottom of the page -

There is about a 4mm gap around the bush to where it touches the gear linkage rod.  I havnt done it yet mate but im going to remove the part that the ball no the gear stick sits in and put a 3mm thick extra bit of material in, plastic or metal.  This will obviously reduce the 4mm gap around the bush to 1mm.

Has anybody got 2D detail drawing from the nylon bushes? I don't want to buy + the post cost too expensive to Hungary...

Thx.

its the same dimensions as the original linkage bushes just different material, just take them out and use those as a template.

Not wanting to seem pedantic but when I fitted some to my GTE linkage the flanged part was actually thicker which I assumed was to eliminate any possible movement up/down the pivot pin,  a stock bush would allow some movement where as the lmf one made the linkage a snug fit when fitting it inside the housing/bracket.

Perhaps this will illustrate better
