This is almost the same method as changing the spark plugs. So the first few steps I have taken from my Spark plug replacement Guide.

This is easier than you may think, as long as you take your time esp when it comes to taking and putting back on the manifold.

Firstly take off the engine cover by removing the 4 torx screws circled.


Next undo the torx screws on blue, the 7 manifold bolts in red, don't worry if the whole bolt comes off with these, some will, some will release just the nut, and release the jubilee clips in pink.  Also the brake servo pipe will need to be undone, this is located on the back of the manifold next to the blue highlighted torx bolt that needs to be taken out.


This will allow you to take off the manifold and move to the side enough to work with, and you will be left with this.  I would strongly recommend you put some tissue paper down the holes in the middle of the V as I have, if you drop anything down there, the spark plugs will be the least of your problems!!


Now its just a matter of taking out the old sparks and replacing them with your nice new ones.

If they come out like this, and covered in oil, then your rocker cover gasket has probably gone, and this will need doing as well.


To do this you need to get a set of the gaskets Vauxhall want about £50 quid to do both banks, but I was lucky enough to find some on eBay for about £20. (shirley9293 is the user ID if you want to look)

OK, firstly you'll need to take off the covers by undoing all the bolt highlighted in yellow


You may find that you have to undo the two pipes on the rear cover (highlighted in red) to get to the two bolts underneath.

When these are off, replace the old gaskets with the new ones in the covers and put the covers back on in their position.

Putting everything back on is the opposite of taking it off, but when replacing the manifold make sure all the pipework is where its supposed to be.  And its a good idea to replace the manifold gasket at the same time.

There are also a couple of pipes that need to be reconnected, the easiest is the one highlighted in yellow in the above picture, and another that connects to the manifold next to the ICV on the block right side.

Its best to depressurise the fuel rail before moving the 2 pipes marked in red, to do that there is a small black plastic screw cap in front remove that and then depress the small ball inside, oh and have a clean rag handy  ;)

When refitting the cam covers torque them down to 8NM  :)

Can i just add that when un-tightening or re-tightening bolt on items such as rocker covers or manifolds its best to dothem in sequence to allow for even pressure to be applied when tightening or loosening otherwise you ca crack or warp said items.

The bellow picture shows a genral sequence for tightening sequence, when undewing bolts do the reverse.

Hi dont have that tool,  it´s dangerouse to use just regular tool?

What are you referring to ?

And those two pipes marked in red can be removed using a 19mm and 17mm spanners.

What do you mean with that?

That means when you tighten the bolts holding the cam cover down use a torque wrench and tighten the bolts to 8NM.

You can do, but try not to over tighten the bolts as it will deform the rubber gasket and its back to having oil leaks again.

Your far better off getting alloy cam covers from a Vectra, they are made of metal and less likely to warp and have bigger better rubber gaskets.

Also Keep in mind.
My local Opel Dealer never only changes the gaskets because if the error is not your gasket but your cover, you won't have any gains on swapping the gastkets only.

As RobbieV mentioned it is better to use Vectra Camcovers.
If not you might want to consider using new one for calibra.
After you know the price you will go for vectra second hand ones LOL.

It is just a fact that I did 2x a gasket swap, and now I am up for my third.
Problem is not the gastket with my V6 but the camcover.

And that is 2 gaskets thrown away

Don't know if it's just the facelift model, but mine ('95) had an extra bolt to undo at the rear of the engine supporting both the inlet manifold and wiring loom.  Located in line with the ball joint of the accelerator cable.  There is also a small breather tube below the manifold (right side as you look from the front of the car) which needs to be undone.  I can only reiterate about cleaning the inlet/crankcase breather tube - mine was pretty much solid with muck - and the vectra cam covers - well worth the search!  Buy a decent torque wrench for peace of mind when screwing it all back together.

And another thing, once I'd disturbed my aging flexible fuel pipes, one of them decided to start leaking when cold.  Time to get friendly with my local Pirtek dealer.  See you all at the barbecue..... >:(
