Hi guys,

I usually get my mechanic to do this, but he was unavailable and it was getting close to the stall-when-slowing-down point, so I got some carb cleaner and gave it a go.

After reconnecting everything and starting my engine, it's making a loud high-pitched continuous whistling sound! (and running like arse...). Any ideas of the most likely culprit?

A couple of contenders...

The screws on the ICV unit were too tight to remove (the unit itself, after being removed from the thottle body), so I just squirted the cleaner in as best I could. Pretty sure I got most of it out.

The gasket was in a bit of a sorry state, but I used it anyway as I didn't have a replacement or gasket paper to make one...

The bottom hex screw was a BITCH to tighten, and I'm not 100% sure that it's fully tightened.

Anyone have a good idea of what's going on?

Grab a new gasket chap, sounds like an air leak or somesuch to me.

You should always replace gaskets anyway ;)

Yeah will do. Are the liquid 'form-a-gasket sealers' useable on the ICV? I live in New Zealand, so only the option to get the correct gasket is to have it sent from the UK.

Turned out the threads on the lower bolt hole were stripped. Got a slightly longer bolt and it sealed up nice and tight. Dunno how many hours I spent messing with that damn bolt...

And Weet-bix carton gasket ftw.
