Check you have the right oil pressure sensor, and check wiring to said sensor.

On the sensor: two connectors good, one connector bad.

does it drop down after the engine has warmed up or is it just staying off the scale all the time?

the fact you have swapped engines increases the chance that it is the sensor.

Most XEs weren't fitted with the correct sensor for the twin gauges.

As I said, easy to check. If there are two connections coming out the back it is correct, only one it is the wrong one. Check the wiring, clean the connectors etc.

99% of oil pressure problems on XE relate to low not high pressure.

Sensor is attached to the oil filter sandwich plate; unfortunately on the inside so it is best to get underneath the car.
