MOT'S by slysi16v "The MOT Guy"! FAQ'S
« on: September 29, 2009, 20:57:15 PM »
MOT's are always a bit of a concern and as an MOT tester I am willing to answer any relevant questions. Please bear in mind that I tend to check the site between 1pm and 2pm (my lunchtime) on working days and cannot view photos etc due to work surf restrictions (Bast*rds). Only occasionally online at home in the evenings where I don't have access to MOT regs/ie: not an anorak, and I do have a life outside of work  ;D Don't be offended if I don't/can't answer a question immediately, I will do all I can to find out the right answer before replying. MOT's are an ar*e but they can give you quite a bit of "free" info about the condition of your car so not all bad, cheaper than an AA inspection! ::)

Title ammended, hope you don't mind but your one was a bit "In yer face".

Good call, hope this will be of benefit to members seeking advice for the "once yearly" Calibra owners nightmare!

Put that sarnie down, lol!

A car is taken for an MOT, it fails on an epic level :D some time later like 3 weeks! car is taken back to test centre. Whole new MOT or test only what it originally failed on?? I thank you ;)

I know a full MOT fee will be payable >:(

I think if you return it within 10 days they only have to test what it failed on, not the whole test. Although I also think they can charge you a retest if you take the vehicle away but they do it for free if they do the repairs. They don't have to charge, but can.

Mine was away for just over 2 weeks but the garage still only tested the parts that failed. Maybe they can use their discretion after 10 days?

Sorry I know I'm not MOT guy, trying to help anyway :)

If it leaves the test centre it needs a full retest

That's a big difference from a full retest.

• If the vehicle stays at the test station which failed the vehicle, to be repaired
No Additional Fee (Partial Re- Examination)

• If the vehicle is brought back to the same test station and retested before the end of the next working day on one or more of the following items only:

No Additional Fee (Partial Re-Examination)

ABS Warning
Bootlid
Brake Pedal Antislip
Direction Indicators
Doors
Dropsides
Emissions
Fuel Filler Cap
Hazard Warning
Headlamp Aim
Horn
Lamps
Loading Door
Mirrors
Rear Reflectors
Registration Plates
Seat Belts (But Not Anchorages)
Seats
Sharp Edges or Projections
Steering Wheel
Tailboard
Tailgate    VIN
Windscreen and Windscreen Wipers/Washers
Wheels and Tyres*

* But not classes 1 & 11
Only one Free Partial Re-Examination is permissible per full examination

• In any other case full re-examination - Full Fee

If its more than 1 day away from the station it is a full retest in any circumstances.
I know a lot of MOT stations don't enforce this but thats the rule

My aim on one headlight was wrong, it took four days to sort at my place. when it was taken back to the MOT center it was classed as a Partial Re-Examination not a full re-test.
