Stupid wheel nuts
« on: May 12, 2017, 15:55:01 PM »
Ok ok I will man up to it  ::)

I drove down to Falmouth Cornwall to collect my daughter from University.

Prior to going I had fitted new front discs and pads and renewed the brake fuid.........next after lowering the car to the ground I started Tightening

The wheel nuts..............then it happened :-[.........her indoors shouted "Bacon butty come and get it :P

Scoffed the lot and went back to my car jobs.......so fast forward to Cornwall trip going 70mph down the M5........suddenly Clunk...Clunk  :-\

As panic set in and pound signs floated around my head.......I am thinking Cv joints knackered..........wheel bearings collapsing and at any minute

My D/s wheel  was about to overtake me turning my car into a Calibra Robin unreliable  >:(

After two nervous days driving in Falmouth I managed to get Caravan Park Wi Fi and logged into Club Calibra  8)

Reading possible probability 's ......from other members there was an easy fix suggestion about loose wheel nuts...etc..........Nooo Oo I thought .....I

Wonder.................Y es you guessed ........on checking 3 wheels were as tight as a mountaineers finger tips.......and the D/S wheel nuts were only

Finger tight  :-\.   So after nipping them up and driving forward............all was well again....no clunk  8)

I have told this story as a warning to anyone who is in the progress of putting on and torxing up the wheel nuts................Don't get distracted

Like I did  ::)   As consolation to my mistake I have been told even trained mechanics have done the same thing.

Happy motoring...........with four wheels..........in future I plan to leave the wheel wrench on a bolt suspended so I don't forget ever again :-[

Sorry fo the book............feel lucky I haven't written about my weeks Holiday there.  ::)

Some years ago I had a front wheel come loose on my Carlton near J10 on the M1 after having had a full service at a local garage. A friend actually had a front wheel come off, overtake him and bring down a cyclist. Fortunately it was in the days before the compensation culture set in and the cyclist was unhurt and laughed it off! I imagine these days the person would claim whiplash, PTSD and anything else that came to mind...

Wow scary story Zodiac  :o

These days if they saw a wheel coming for them they would most likely lay down in the road praying for it to hit them......thanks for your input

Anyone else got any Calibra stories like this to share........ ;D
