right i just posted this to a load of bodybuilders that having been well bodybuilding for years, just waiting to see what they say back to me now :) as it is a topic i am getting a little confused about.....btw my BF% is 14%

lets see what they say, as scooby has got my mind all muddled up :D

got a reply

Quote
everyone is differant but if your natural you are going to struggle adding a good deal of size at 10% as you are too busy worrying about bf% over mass gains.
The key imo is to get to the 8-10% bf so you have scope to as cleanly as possible grow into the 14-15% bf margin whilst gaining a shed load of mass on the way, always keeping bf% in check though.
If you go from 160lb at 10% to 220 at 14% you will have gained 35lb lean mass cut down to 10% again at 198lb 38lb heavier but you had gain abit of fat to do that. Good trade off thier for me.

i don't think he was talking any particular time frame but more goal orientated :)

Don't you just love people who mix SI & Imperial units of measure - "1g of protein per 1lb of body weight"  LoL

So that's about 1/2lb of protein for a 16st man.

There are two good reasons for this J@z

1/ It is clearly a lot easier for someone  to work out 1g per lb of body weight than it is for them to be told take 1g per 450g of body weight

2/ Most people in bodybuilding and many other areas still weigh bodyweight in Lbs, go to the hospital and they will weigh you in Lbs not Kgs, watch a boxing match "and in the red corner weighing in at 205Lbs" you get the idea where as many supplements eg Creatine.... product example 'Reflex Creapure Creatine' is measured in grams so again the easiest way is to work out bodyweight Lbs to product weight grams

 :)

i used this
http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/body-fat-percentage-calculator

and i put photos up of my body for them to have a good look at and guess roughly what i am....the bodybuilders said 14% and the calculator came back at 14.37%

so its fairly accurate :)

I used the calculator at the gym and mine said 17%

Good info chops ;D

Just read the back of my protein tub and it recommends 3 x 25g servings per day for a male that weighs 75kg (165lbs or 11.8 stones). Based on this info, I weigh 100kgs (224lbs or 16 stones) which means i'd have to up the servings to 33g each to make the 100kg male serving equal the same ratio as the 75kg male.

This is very easy to work out but there is something confusing about it?? I hear that it's best to consume 1g of protein per day for every 1lb you weigh, this would mean I need 224g a day divided by 3 servings equalling just over 74g per serving ???

Am I looking at this all wrong and what is actually meant is you're supposed to consume 1g of protein per lb you weigh including protein shakes AND food? If it means food aswell, this is going to be difficult to track throughout the day :-\

It includes the protein derived from food as well mate  :)

So you need to work out the protein content of what you are eating, and depending on how it is cooked

Is there not also a point where you can consume too much protein?

One of the problems with too much protein is dehydration so just make sure you drink enough, as long as your piss is clear all is good IMO

so is there a reason for it?

Maybe its while the body adapts to the change? i.e the increase in protein?
