Does anyone know a good but cheap spray shop?
« on: May 14, 2010, 09:46:41 AM »
Hi people I am now midway through my Calibra project and have now got to the point of spraying my car.

Does anyone know of a good spray shop near Northallerton?

This is the only thing that is holding back my Cally from ripping up the road once again.

Well that and fitting a new engine.
Warned and muted for insulting a precious moderator. Totally forgetting the continious slagging off I get from the same people.

Double standards. What a joke

good and cheap in the same sentence when it comes to a spraying your car are too VERY different things, you should really sit down and think which you prefer. Personally you should pay that bit extra to get a really good finish

Thats not always the case. I know somewhere that will do you a £225 respray that is much better than the £800 respray just down the road. Honest to god you'd think the prices were the other way round! Price doesn't always reflect quality.

fair point, but 9 times out of 10 was the way I was trying to put it across.

what does the 200 include? is that you doing all the prep yourself, or just handing over the keys ans saying get on with it??

£225 is all inclusive, and the guy has been doing it for 30 years!

Does that include all the prep work & all the work between coats (primer, colour, lacquer)?

Apparently so but here is where I have the problem with it, the paint and everything else needed for a good respray would cost you more than that if you include the the primer, paint, filler, stopper, thinners, lacquer, sanding disks, masking paper, masking tape, G6 compound, electricity, does this guy work for free?

I personally think that Ben gives him several up the bottom to get it done at that price. ;)

massivly agree..

plus all the time to remove lights, badges and then refit them etc etc plus drying times between all coats, heat lamps aint cheap to power either.
At that price he either employes 20 polls on a production line system or works for a loss. i bought 1/4 litre of 2pac base coat, lacqure, thinners and hardener and that came to £40 mates rates (enough to do two bumpers ish)...£600 min and thats cheap in my eyes ..keys handed over
If she thinks you don't love her then
a) Take her out for a meal
b) Buy her some flowers or
c) Cram it in her ass. Dry.
Then she'll know you do!

Thats everything included. Materials cost under £80 from a bodyshop supplier. I don't know where you guys are buying from but sounds like you're paying over the odds.

The place is called St. Mary's Resprays, they were on Meadow Lane in Long Eaton last time i went there, I believe they've now moved to Ilkeston (Derbyshire).

Everyone was buzzing about their £225 fully inclusive deal and I've seen a R5 Turbo they did, a Renault 19 Cabriolet and both were perfect except the rear spoiler on the R5 blistered after a week or so but that was probably down to a paint mistmatch (it was aftermarket spoiler).

As I say not been there in 2/3 years I go somewhere closer to me, so don't have any recent experience of them but I know their sprayer had 30 odd years experience back then!
