any progress ?
Well.. so far, it has had a few hundred quid spent on bits and pieces. Usual stuff: Plugs, oil, filters, rocker cover gasket, transmission fluid, coolant flush, new radiator (the old one had a blocked bottom half). Have also replaced the aerial base and side repeaters. Interior light replaced (thanks to Joe's breaker) and heater control panel bulb done too. Door check strap washers have been replaced so I have quiet doors now. Sadly found out the NS check strap is not attached to the door though...
Heated rear screen works now as well (thanks again to Joe).
The car only ever did short trips and barely ever got warm I guess, so it is getting used to being out and about. Have put about 700 miles on it since October. This is just below what it has done every
year for the last 10yrs or so.
Stuff coming up:
Headlining - Have sourced a replacement material and got a firm that will fit it and hopefully sort out the tray.
Locks - I have never known a car that locks this way but it has two keys. One key unlocks the driver's door and starts the car. That key won't lock the door though - for that, you use the key that locks the boot. Anyhoo, got a full lock set on the way.
Parcel shelf - nasty crease down it so it is sagging badly. Replacement on the way.
Thermostat - Managed to find a brand new Vx 92 degrees one for £12. I think the current one might be stuck open as it takes a while to warm up and I don't see the tell tale drop in temperature when it opens.
Windows/Sunroof - Windows are temperamental so need to look at the mechanism. Had a similar problem with the Vectra recently. The sunroof needs a new seal as the current one looks a bit tired (thankfully the sunroof works fine). Vx can get one from Germany for £116. Seen one over here for £107. Ouch.
Would love to have a Vx CD300RDS radio in there but the original tape player will do for now. Aside from that, the interior needs a deep clean but that can wait until summer.
On top of that the Cavalier needs some paintwork and a couple of new tyres amongst other things (new fuel tank).
