Probably built from a brand new shell in 2004.

Mk? MR2. I am thinking you mean a Mk1 or 2 MR2.

It's legal to have an older reg on an newer car but not a newer reg on an older car. You can't misrepresent the age of a car through official paperwork, etc.

Hmmmm, very odd.

I Think imported cars are given a reg according to it's year of manufacture (or best estimate), not it's year of import.

Probably built from a brand new shell in 2004.

Would that not be given a "Q" plate or equivalent?

my revision of mr2 was stopped at the end of 93, also stated on import paperwork and i believe that the mk2 stopped production in 1999

Thought so.

"Mk2" MR2s went from 90G reg up to 00W reg in the UK so far as I can see, could have the same situation as the S reg Cali's for a X00 reg.

I've asked various people about 54reg MR2 and almost all reckon DODGY or show plates.

I see it often, but previously i'm sure it was on a H or L plate. I ran a check of the plate on the DVLA site and it came up with the following:

Date of Liability  01 03 2010
Date of First Registration  01 03 2008
Year of Manufacture  1995
Cylinder Capacity (cc)  1998CC
CO2 Emissions  0g/Km
Fuel Type  Petrol
Export Marker  Not Applicable
Vehicle Status  Licence Not Due
Vehicle Colour  RED
Vehicle Type Approval  null
