Tips when fitting a Stereo!
« on: July 30, 2006, 11:29:42 AM »
If you're struggling to feed the masses of wiring down the back of the dashboard, help is at hand. You may be struggling with several RCA leads, CD multichanger cable, ISO wiring, remote wires etc..

To make this whole process easier, remove the oil/volt meter gauges. They just pull out easily and then click back in place...

You can then reach inside whilst fitting the headunit, and route the cables into place  ;D

Or a quicker simpler way, just keep sliding the stereo in and out hard until you beat them far enough back for it to lock into place.

All done.

Loving the "beating them into place" idea.

Oi Ash, see you've edited your post!
Did you not mean a pic of gauges removed, and wiring being fed behind, and not one of the gauges sat on a table many feet from a car?
Lol.

Well unfortunately I no longer have a Calibra to do that. But seeing as CallyT is so keen to input to this thread, I'm sure he won't mind spending some time taking them!

Mine didn't have those gauges!
Got a boost gauge superglued in there lol. Will be getting mover to drivers blower vent I reckon...
Know what you mean though, all I've fitted, had to tuck it down the back, then see if stereo will slot home. With them removed make it a lot easier.
Good work DanBastardisedHybridCali bra.

Surely you instead have some form of blanking plate that'll remove just as easily?

You have a tray instead of the battery and oil thingy

If you have to own a Calibra; make sure it's the 4x4 turbo. You dont want to fanny around with a FWD car.

to make things even easier, unclip the surround from the tray above the glovebox and remove the screws then the glovebox. now you can easily reach in behind with loads of room to work!  ;D
