I have just bought the oil and battery gauge for my calibra centre console. How easy or difficult is it to fit it???

The wires arent tucked up anywhere. You need to get a block connector and a decent lenght of the wires out of a scrap cally and wire it in.You need a wire to go to the oil pressure sender unit.I have just done this mod on my 8v,and i ran the wire through the grommet that the engine loom goes through, and under the dash to the opening in the fascia panel. The oil pressure switch must be changed to the dual type or the gauge will not work(see bellow for pic of the dual sender/switch unit. You also need to remove the back of the fascia panel (also see pic, pull apart at the arrowed points and remove the tray). To wire it up i took a live off the fag lighter live wire(black),ran an earth through the fag lighter earth(brown),Ran the black/grey illumination wire to the black/grey on the trip computer/d.i.d/clock illumination wire(also black and grey, wired through this so lights dim with the dimmer switch),and the blue/green wire goes to the oil pressure sender.

regarding the oil pressure switch/sender,these are £109+vat from Vauxhall,Lmf do them for £45, i have seen them on E-bay for £29 or you could get a load from a scrapyard.Pressure on the sender side is 0-5 bar, switch side is 0.4 bar

heres the pic that shows where to seperate the sides of the fascia panel to remove the oddments tray(pull apart where the arrows are)

if anyone is thinking of doing this ,(or the trip computer) mod and gets stuck let me know and i might be able to help.regards,Richard.

before you go buying oil sender units and removing wires, check that the connector isnt already there ! models after a certain date already have the connector in place. i almost started pulling out wires from the cigarette lighter and found the actual connector for the guages ! if you dont have the connector then good luck i dont envy you doing all that messin around with the wires ;)

if you havent got the gauges as standard you will definately need the twin terminal oil pressure sender/switch unit,as all you will have is the basic oil pressure warning light switch.

My oil level sender has been a bit iffy since i got the car.  looked on ebay but im not 100% which one is the right one.  Are they just a universal part?

no,they are not a universal part as such, although most vauxhall/Opel models(with the exception of early models like mantas etc as these had a different thread size) use the same sender. You would need one to fit an X20XE engine,if yours is an ecotec.a Vauxhall parts dealer called LMF do them for £45, i have put a link for them below.hope it helps.

alot of people buy the oil and volt gauges for cosmetic reasons so its not always the case. your right tho, its very likely if they are not in the dash already you probably wont have the wires. if this is the case then rebelscums installation guide is the easiest way. can be alot of agro just to have relatively inaccurate guages in your dash ;)

hey Sam,   i'm guesing you have the same gauges as in the V6?

if so there should be a small  connector for them in the wiring loom that plugs into the back of them..

if the gauges are after market, then I'm a little unsure on that mate..
sorry..

edit;  sorry just read through the thread before I posted... R.Scum is on the ball with the hookups for the gauges mate, he'll be the best to answer  your quires.

I race cars for sport because football, soccer, basketball, hoockey, cricket and golf only use one ball.
