A guide to How 2 Fit all ur ICE goodies
« on: April 13, 2007, 14:03:40 PM »
:D Hello all...ive been busy fitting my install so i thought a "how to" would come in handy if ur thinking of doing the same. Now by no means am i an expert but i have installed 4 amps and 2 subs so i know a little bit

Right....you need to think about what u want

As most of u seem to like ur tunes in ur cally u might want to upgrade some or all of ur audio set up u currently have.....What u change and renew is down to a few key factors....

1......what Buget you have
2......What Type of music u like
3......Do u need the use of ur boot for shopping etc

No1....all of my stuff comes from Ebay....and if ur lucky u can pic up some bargains
Buy what u can aford i think...it don matter if its not a big name or anything

No2...If like me u love dance, pop etc.....u need a fairly good setup....but if ur into ur oldies ur not going to need gigga watts of bass

No3...If u and the family need to use the car for "normal stuff" like shopping etc a boot full of subs/amps arnt going to help

Ok say ur like me...need bass and volume.....most head units boast 40wx4 or more.....so in real life i half that....not much eh...?

So adding a Amp is the best way to inprove sound after upgradeing your speakers !!

Ok down to the "nitty gritty" stuff....most "good" head units have a PRE-AMP out....or like mine it has 2...these are used to get the signal to ur amp(s)....dont worry if u dont have 1...some amps have speaker inputs and the amp(s) get there signal that way.

Right also from the head unit there will be a BLUE wire...this is ur REMOTE wire...its there to tell the amp to "swich on"

So lets say u are going for a single Amp setup.....1 thing u will need to get from the Battery to the boot is power....!!.....most car shops sell "all-in-one" car amp kits wich range from 300watt up2 3500watts+...you MUST get the right kit for ur amp....theres no skimping on this part.....and if u add more amps ltr your power supply WILL need upgradeing with it...its not good if u have 2x1000w amps on a 600w amp kit...cos u Could set your car on FIRE...nuff said there eh...?

Heres a pic of my setup and whats involved etc

At the front u have your Head unit.....with phono cables and amp Remote comeing out the back...wich all feed to the boot(hidden under trim etc)...then u have the power wires comeing from the battery...u done have to run a Earth wire down to the boot(as any bolt thats bolted to the car body is a good earth)...the red wire is fed threw into the boot.

when u get there now depents on your set up....I have a POWER CAP <blue circle> (this helps keep the power constant to ur amps when u get low Bass notes and mabe not needed if ur have a 1 amp setup)

Also theres a Power Distribution block....now again if u have 1 amp u wont need this...but any more than that u will need 1...they come various sizes...1 power in and 2 out...etc....there fused aswell wich is good !!...mines a 4way so theres a power feed to each amp !

Earths....right ur amp will need a good earth....ive bolted mine to the metal flange in the spare weel well...this needs to be a good strong Earth !!

Part 2

Ok as u can see my install is quite big....so u can see a genral idea of the work involved...now a 1 amp setup will not be hard to do...but if u are like me and dont mind loseing the boot and like to pose then more the better lol

Right u have power in your boot....u need to fit the PHONO cable from ur head unit...its always bet to route ur phono cables away form the power supply....so theres no interferance etc

So  from here u need to put your amp away from damage etc......your power cable(red) goes to 12v+ on your amp...your earth goes to GND(black)...your Blue REMOTE wire goes to REM.....they will all be next to each other....!

Then from your amp i will have to wire up your rear speakers..where ever they may be...lol

Thats a kinda simple guide to fitting a Simple system......however if u dont know what u are doing..GET IT FITTED BY SOME ONE WHO DOES !!!!

 ;)

Part 3

:D Right....not here come the Big stuff......and i trust u kow the basics etc from here onwards

So....u want bigger and better things...?.....cool....i`ll try and help u

Ok...my install it made up of the following.....

2xSony 1200w 12" subs
2xSony 1000w amps to power the subs
2xSony 200w five way amps....4x200w full range and 1x200 sub channel per amp
4xSony 200w 6x9`s (not fitted yet)
1xSony 17cm components in doors
1xsony 17cm 2ways in rear quater pannels
1xSony 100w tweeters in boot lid pannel(not fitted yet)

2buy still.....2x12"subs and boxes(for the output on the somy 5 ways) if i go that far lol

So theres the kit list....not to install it all lol  ::)

You really need to get your sub box 1st as this will give u the room u have left to fit amps etc

After u have that in the boot u can figure out where the amps are going to go and any other stuff that u need lide power cap/power dis block etc...below u can see a few pics on how my install is set out....This is inportant to get right..as u have allsorts of power/phono cables to get around the amps...so there needs to be a bit of space.....!!

Mount your amps on MDF after u know i can fit it all in...!!.....I drilled holes in the MDF to pass the cabes threw...(the weel well is great for all the cables to go in (zip tied up for neatness)..also...this pannel should be moveable so u can get to ur sape wheel etc(mine will lift up)

Part 4

Power me up baby !!  ::)

So u have ur boot floot set up with MDF...and ur amps in there places....!

Now u need power to them all.....this is the time consumeing bit

I whet to a Car audio shop for advice here.....i bought a 2500w amp wireing kit(£69)...a 2.5 farad power cap(£90)...and a power dis block(£59)..with amps and volt readout lol

The amp wireing kit is more than enough for my 4 amps...and will run them safely

DONT CUT CORNERS HERE PEEPS....it could mean u lose ur car !!!

The powe from the battery comes into the boot and into the power dis block on 1 side...then from the same side another cable goes to the + terminal on the power cap....wich has its own earth.

The power cap is fitted in the left corner of the boot btw

Part 5

So as u can see the power dis block had its 2 power feeds....and 4 power feed come out the otherside with fuses inbetween....them power cables goto each amp...undeneath and up threw a hole.

The Earths for the amps come from the Flange in the spare wheel well..its a easy bolt threw job

Now u have to feed the speaker wires threw the mdf and off to where ever the speckers are etc

Part 6

Phonos !!

ok....i have 2 phono leads from the headunit....one goes to the first sub amp..wich has a "through connection" wich goes to the other sub amp.....wich are both set up the same etc.....the second phono lead goes to the sony amp at the mo...but i will use "y" leads to split this into 2...1 fee for each amp

So there u go...thats the genral idea....and is just a guide to what i have done !! tc all and keep the tunes pumpin lol  ;D

it stops some of the rattles and means that people outside thec ar ant hear it as well.
it can be really loud inside, and yet passers by cant hear it - just how i like it - im not into drawing a lot of attention to myself

im not sure what its called to be honest.  it was fitted ages ago.
i think you wound need a power cap for 4 amps.  i doubt the headunit could do it alone.
