Shame we can't make it to the Norwich one.

Would be good to arrange something like, Ipswich to South-end-on-Sea and back.

For some reason most people don't seem to like long cruises at Club meets.  One reason for this is that they like just meeting up with fellow club members and looking at their cars, rather than driving in a long convoy.  Another is that it can be very difficult to keep a big convoy together over long distances.  In other words they prefer socialising to driving.

I suspect that Ipswich to Colchester would be more like the kind of distance people might be prepared to travel, in addition to getting to and from the meeting.  Or Ipswich to Shotley, or somewhere like Pin Mill (lunch at the Butt & Oyster overlooking the foreshore?), or Flatford Mill, perhaps for some picturesque backdrops.

Sounds better to do something shorter. Pin Mill is great, love the Butt and Oyster.
Could also get some decent backdrops for some photo's.

Fantastic!!

What days are best for you guys, it's a shame we can't make it to Norwich.

I mean there are other options if not like meet at Clacton (nearer to others) on seafront, or Felixstowe, or even Pin Mill, then some piccies can be taken too!

The only problem with the Butt at weekends, once the weather starts to improve, is parking.  The pub car park gets packed and the road down to the hard is very narrow and lined with 'yachties' cars.  You end up having to park in a car park half way up the hill - and even then, only if you are lucky!  At low tide you used to be able to park on the hard, but don't leave the cars there!

Yeah parking is very limited, and it is a lovely place to go.

If not I have a few other suggestions.

as [email protected] said, there's not great parking at the the butt so as nice it would be, probably not best for a weekend meet. if we're looking at weekends, with warmer weather, how about an overnighter at orwell meadows, then perhaps a ride down to pin mill for a meal? wouldn't be a bad little run, over the bridge, and then along the river?

Me and vix were talking today and both agree that a weekday meet at the butt is probably the best option... i know people want the weekend but it's just not feasable at that pub and it really is such a lovely meet... if no-one else fancies it, i think me n vix will just have our own meet haha

They don't have to be mutually exclusive.  You can organise a mid-week meet @ The Butt for an evening when the evenings are lighter, for those people who haven't got to travel too far and a weekend meet somewhere else for those who can't make it mid-week.  If not Orwell Fields, there's a new bar/cafe at the Royal Harwich Yacht Club, which has more parking than the Butt, or there's Flatford Mill, over Manningham way.

i take it you mean manningtree? yeah flatford mill is nice, except then you've got the problem that when it's wet its horrible but when it's dry it's packed! lol Somewhere with a good view would be nice... so we can take lots of pretty pictures rather than car park cally's!

Manningtree is a great option too, there is the Mistley river, where we could park all the callys up along the side, it is suppsoed to be haunted there, there are a couple of great pubs in the area and food is good too.

Well I am up for whatever!

Shall we create a poll then for the next South East meet then, and see what most people want to do.

I'll create a thread if you want, of all the places that have been listed with pictures, information, pubs/restaurants etc, then we can all put our vote through to see what place would be most popular.

Good idea, but to avoid confusion, it might be better to refer to it as an East Anglian meeting, because it's quite a long way from Kent and Sussex and other places in the 'South East'...
