Uprated Tyres rubbing against MudFlaps
Most of the written material I had come across recommended dropping the aspect ratio from 205/55 to 205/50 when fitting 16" rims in place of the standard 15" Pentaline (making it the same as the standard turbo configuration).
Interestingly though the Vauxhall Luton main dealers advice when increasing rim size by an inch is to drop a 'full size' to an aspect ratio of 45. Unfortunately using 50s on 16" Rims does now mean the tyres rub on the front mudflaps - again as predicted by Pinnacle Luton.
The rolling circumference of the 195/60/15s is 1870mm, while the 205/55/15s drop this to 1850mm - a difference of just over 1%. I like the P6000s and changed to them on a V6 SRi Vectra company car that I used to drive. But I have also heard good reports of the Avon ZV1s [introduced since Coopers took over Avon]. They seem to grip as well as the P6000s, and have more 'meat' on the shoulders, so they don't wear the edge down as much. More importantly, they are a directional tyre, so the tread pattern means that they should disperse water more effectively.
