Right I've done mine today so I thought I'd post up part numbers* and pictures for anyone who isn't sure

I'm told there is variation on the door check design. I have the later type on my M-reg Calibra. This is the same as newer Vauxhalls like the Vectra B (confirmed today)

Right, for each door on a late Calibra you need
- Bolt
- Nylon bush
- Washer
- Nut

These are the f*cking badboys right here

Put a 10mm spanner on the underside nut and a 10mm ratchet spanner on the bolt head and undo

Swing the check arm out

Then just swap the bush (it pops in/out) and refit

Job done.

*Part numbers are Vauxhall numbers with "AS" added on the front (Autovaux stock?). If ordering from Vauxhall then don't quote the "AS" part

Worked a treat!

My doors were probably the loudest I've ever heard before and are now silent :D (mind you the shell is alleged to have been to the moon and back under the previous owner!)

Thanks for the information guys! I went to vauxhall and got some of the little plastic washer/spacer clips, its surprising how the old one actually didnt look any different or worn to the new one, but i fitted it in and hey presto that horrible noise was gone! it took less than 2 mins to change and the guy in parts at vauxhall gave me them for free! result! :)

I was actually thinking about seeing how many he had, and asking for them all seeing as hes so happy to give them away LMFAO cheeky sh*t i am. but sadly like with the astra gte, im sure over time parts will become harder and harder to source. so no harm in getting stocked up now

Oh i dont know if this has been mentioned or not by somebody but on the diagram vauxhall have of the door fittings, the washer/spacer in question is the one that is marked '14' in the diagram. I wasnt quite sure what it was i needed, and even after explaining where it was and what it did, he still wasnt too sure. as it doesnt clearly show you on the diagram where it is.   so hope this might help anyone whose going to buy these things.

There is a nylon insert that the pin goes through. i suggest changing this first as its only 20p from Vauxhall.

i spoke to vauxhall about that and they had no idea what i was on about, they gave me a print off of the diagram of the entire door and door lock assembly and there doesn't look to be an insert? the bloke suggested instead of trying a thick rubber washer to act as a sleeve around the bolt, which should kill the noise

If I'm right, the problem you have got is nothing to do with the "door lock assembly", it is a problem with the 'check-strap'.  This is not a 'strap', but a solid metal plate, or link, that prevents the door from opening too far and damaging the body work.  There is a pin that goes through a mounting in the door frame and the check-strap and the nylon insert fits around that.

Spot on.

The wear between the nylon bush and the bolt makes the strap slam into it's notches instead of glide... making the noise.

That's the problem with main dealers employing parts people who know nothing about car mechanics.  Was a time when even the most humble storeman would know most of the parts on most of the cars their employers sold.
