Track Calibra X20xev
« on: July 13, 2009, 21:20:34 PM »
Ive told the story on my Calibra in introduction so wont got into it.
Like the heading says it going to my track car and I'm spending as little money as possible well that's what I hope any way. lol
As far as it goes Ive just stripped the car out, replaced the wing mirrors with cheap eBay ones, got a set of 14" TSW alloys for 50 euro and just fitted bonnet pins. All the fuel lines had to be replaced due to cracking as the car was lying up for a year. The intake pipes have to be replaced to as well as the springs. Any suggestions or tips would be a real help and all would be taken into consideration. Thanks to all who take time to have a look :)

The money so far
Car = 200
Alloys = 50
mirrors = 50
Seats and harnesses = 120
Bonnet pins + booth rubber hooks = 25
425 yoyos so far.

INSIDE THE CAR SO FAR

NEW MIRRORS AND ALLOYS

VERY RUSTY AND SNAPED SPRING (H&R LOWERING SPRINGS)

FUELL LINES THAT WERE REPLACED FOR THE PBV AND THE INTAKE THAT NEED TO BE REPLCED

Cool project! Very nice so far!

Be sure to remove the sound-proof mat on the interior floor, it weighs a LOT! Maybe 20-30kg if you include boot floor!

See my project for pics and how to remove!

Get a heatgun on it, then a wallpaper scraper. It'll leave some glue behind which you should use sticky-stuff remover (from Halfords) on. It's all in my thread including pics

engine need a wash as there are a few kilos of dirt by the looks of it.
as for the rest of the striping. dont forget about hydraulics boot lifters and also the air filter for the interior (the one that is located underneath the front wiper arms)
there is probably a point of removing central locking system and some other minor stuff.
More weight gone the better. (try to remember about all those little things)

Just a small update, Since I bought the car back I haven't driven it due to so many reasons. But one was that it needed a seal on the gearbox. I don't know what one or the name of it sorry. Im a bit stupid ::) But my mechanic ripped of the box today only to discover that it had a hole in the side of it. :o >:(  So after a quick call to my Vauxhall mad friend he sorted me out with a F16 box to replace the fucked F18. Now Im told the F16 is a tighter ratio but a weaker box. As the car will be mainly used in Mondello a close ratio box is more suited.

one thing, the drag co was set on the calibra with it using the thin wheels so if you could get hold of a set of steels there will be less drag holding you back and also they will be lighter, so less un-sprung weight, and that coupled with a lower profile tyre the acceleration will be slightly faster.

In the last two weeks Ive had to replace the gearbox and Fly wheel plus I took a chance on a very cheap set of Shocks and springs. I bought them on the German Ebay. Had a bit of trouble with translation but I got there eventfully. I fitted them and im happy so far.
I got one seat fitted to. I fitted it the original  rails but was way to high my head was bent over and I didnt even have my helmet on. lol
So I ended up cutting down the rails and welding on to angle plates. I also got to take it for a spin. my frist drive of it in so many years  8)
I loved it. I still have to take out the sound deadening and fit the other seat that will be next weekends jobs. I also fitted a induction kit and I know plenty will say why?? lol I just like the sound. lol

Would be good to see it on a weighbridge now to see how much weight you have lost.

My clio got noticably quicker when I stripped it.

Weight saving is great job. I know lads rallying Modified class in Nova's, one spent fortune on light weight bonnet and panels shaved few seconds off stages. Other went to gym and gave up drink lost 3 stone shaved more time off his stages :D

That said there could be fair chunk weight in fillers in your bonnet vent, cut it out ta feck ;)

Google will tell you for sure but from memory it's roughly 1440kg for a Turbo and something like 1290kg for a 16v? Not sure TBH
