Sorry monkey f*cker, I missed the post whilst putting those pics on for you but I would have only suggested the same as J@z some metal strips along the rear of the bumper held in place with a thin skim over of fibreglass

You could even create some 'ribs' by using thin flat pieces of metal on one edge to fit the inside of the bumper.  Then use fibreglass to bond them in place.

I'm not sure what material older Mondeo bumpers were made of, but you used to see them driving on the motorway with the rear bumper flapping around as it caught and spilled air from under the car, effectively acting like a huge air-brake!  ;D  They may have been fibreglass.  If a bumper isn't stiff enough, unless a special flexible paint is used, flexing of the bumper often causes the paint to flake off, as you used to see on a lot of Rovers.  So stiffening the bumper has got to be a good move.

The only thing with stiffening the bumper is that, if you catch it on a kerb, or speed-bump, there's an even bigger risk of cracking it because it can't flex...  :(

Mondeo bumpers and 95% of most cars are made out of plastic, but mondeo's are very thin and have foam bonded to them for strength, which doesn't stop most of them having to be held together with gaffer tape .......  ;D

My Nemesis is this god damn widearch kit  ::)

The final arch went on last week (NSR) and went on without a hitch but the nsr bumper arch extention does not want to play nicely at all  >:(  it has been fitted and removed 3 times now  >:( and the final conclusion is that it is a bad mould  >:( it does not fit correctly at all  >:( so the decision has been taken to cut it to bits and make a new one  >:( it seems to be the only way forward as the original is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard  >:(

I would like to add that I am really really  >:(

What make is the kit?  Go on, get your own back, dish the dirt on the manufacturer.  I assume that it is GRP, rather than ABS.

Yes mate, it is 15mm different to the O/S extention and there is a 'twist' in the arch as it gets toward the top, once the wider wheels are fitted and the car lowered it would be very noticeable
