LoL. Funny that, when I believe that it is illegal not to have an internal rear-view mirror in a car! So a 15-20% tint film would be the maximum permissible addition.
This is all getting a bit off topic as well! sorry to the OP!!!
Don't worry too much about it, all threads end up going this way.
I don't think it is illegal.
I was told its ok to have 2 out of the 3!!!(like break lights!)like a van! they don't have a centre mirror! (well not all of them!)but my 1.2 Nova never had a left hand side mirror! just a blank plate!
There appears to be some confusion over this. I believe that under UK law a vehicle has to have a minimum 'two rear view mirrors'. On a car this can be a drivers side mirror (wing or door mounted) and an internal rear view mirror, or possible two external mirrors, as on a van with no rear windows. On a van or truck, with no view through the rear window, this can be two external mirrors. However, I have also heard that if a vehicle is fitted with an internal rear view mirror when it is built, it is required to have one and may fail it's MoT if it doesn't. I'm not quite sure what the law says if the rear window is so blacked out that an internal rear view mirror is useless for anything except doing your make-up, or chatting to your passengers...
I rang a mate (20+ years MOT tester) and thats the info he gave me.
I wouldn't worry too much about it J@z.
Clearly a van, or estate (or coupe) with rear seats that are designed to fold down to take a load, might well have the rear view obstructed by a load in the back of the vehicle. AFAIK this is not illegal.
It's not illegal because even with the rear view mirror being obscured, you still have 2 wing mirrors.
As long as it has two external mirrors it will pass the MOT regardless of the internal mirror.
I concur! The Escort passed several MOT's (including the one earlier this year) with no rear view mirror, just the two wing mirrors.
See J@z nothing to worry about
