Cambelt snapped :(

Was driving home an hour ago and lost all power after a small bump in the engine, looked and yes it had gone :( What are the chances of the engine still being alive?

Ahh sh*t mate. That sucks... what kind of speed where you doing?? She's bound to have bent a few valves.

I was doing 55 ish, cruising, poof off it went. Tbh honest i needed a new engine anyway as mine had done 156.000 and was smokey, so i might invest in a c20...

Bad luck.

The engine had done 156,000m; how long have you had it?  i.e. how many miles have you done in it?  When was the cam belt last changed?

It is recommended to change them every 36,000m (60,000km), or 48mths/2yrs.  If it was last changed before the engine had done 120,000m, it's not entirely surprising if it has now failed.

Personally I would ignore the 2yrs, although the belt could theoretically perish, but for peace of mind I prefer to have it changed at roughly every third major 9,000m service interval.

Don't forget to change the tensioner at the same time.  it may not be absolutely necessary every time you change the belt, but if it has never been changed when the belt has previously been change, it can shorten the life of the belt.

Was done when i first got the car, and done 13.000 in it since, not hard driving either, unless i was on a straight road with phil ;)

Bit late for the advice now as its well gona be fooked.

Can someone tell me, i tried to move the cams/pulleys and they were very very hard to move even with a key and metal bar to lever them, is that normal to be hard?
