« on: March 27, 2007, 17:45:51 PM »
Does anyone know who designed the Cally ............because my wife is under the impression that it must have been an Australian.......(Holden)....because even though you can get your family in it goes like hell ...... there is plenty of bootspace for crates of Fosters and a barbecue............and even though it is a sports coupe. there are still fittings on the roof for roofbars to hold the surf boards.....anyone got any thoughts on this........

...as the designer was apparently an American the boot is obviously designed for crates of Bud and a barbeque ...and the fittings for the roofbars to hold the surf boards were obviously designed with California and 'Surfin' USA' in mind.

Wayne Cherry was a top design guru at GM. He designed the Camaro IROC-Z http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third-generation_Chevrolet_Camaro and a host of other great cars.

But since he's american, all his cars must be cr*p right.. ::)

Although the Calibra was for Opel, GM were looking to take it to the US as thre Pontiac Grand Prix. Wonder what they would have thought of it.
Hello, my SE6 auto. 65,000 miles and still going strong....

The Yanks like cubes.  Surely they would have had to stuff a bigger lump under the bonnet to appeal to the coupe market over there.  2.5L wouldn't have cut it against 4.0, 5.0 & 6.0L competitors driven through the rear axle.  Perhaps they couldn't get a large enough engine in there which is possibly why the Pontiac Grand Prix never materialised.

Wayne Cherry is indeed a Septic, and designed the "Droop Snoot" look on the HP firenza, Chevette Black Magic, the Equus concept, Cavalier Aero, and a few others.

I think he's the head of GM Design Europe now.

Do a Google - probably tell you more than I can!
