Will you be doing tensioners, followers, thermostat, aux belt and water pump while you are at it?

I reckon you should at least change the water pump while 'Pete Mate' is in there.
I had cambelt, tensioners, followers, thermostat, water pump, aux belt and fronk crank seal done in 4.5 hours

I reckon 3 hours for just the belt and tensioners. Does he have a cam locking tool?

Na, my funds are tied up in Clio as I just bought the Honda, if the water pump goes it ain't terminal ;) I would expect a water pump to last 4 years, that's when that was last done.

Kin hell, yeah he's a mechanic and knows the V6's like the back of his hand, good eh! He asked me if I wanted to borrow his locking tool, told him to eff off as he'd be needing it ;D

Alz the water pump is ?30 really think you should do it as it's four extra bolts and if it fails so does your engine! and again makes sense to do the aux belt as you have to remove it to do the cam belt and the aux belt drives the water pump so if that fails your in trouble too.

If your in there do the lot, peace of mind is priceless.

Yep I know what your saying but if the water pump failed or aux belt failed it wouldn't be terminal, I would notice ;D The aux belt failed on the Saab Turbo the other week, it lived, mores the pitty, LOL!

Cam belt on the other it's too late.

Cheers guys!

If water pump seizes it can throw the aux belt off and take the cam belt with it, that's why Jeffd changed the aux belt roller which had started rattling.

Appreciated. But the chances of that happening are minute, a brand new part could f*ck up, I'm not losing any sleep over it ;) I can hear you all now 'silly cow'  ;D

I'd have more faith in the belt outlasting the rollers and water pump. From the ones I've seen, the belts always look good at 40k+ miles. I'd still change it, only because I'd be doing everything else too ;)

Why do the water pump?

The water pump can be done anytime as it's driven off the aux belt & you don't need to touch the cam belt to do it. Understandable on the other engines where the water pump is driven off the cambelt but on the V6, utterly pointless!

I don't get that, how can a thrown aux belt possibly take the cam belt with it?

According to Jeffd if the roller siezes, (the seal on mine had spit and lost it's lubricant) then that can send the aux belt inwards

What, through the plastic cover? lol

Still don't see the point of doing the water pump just because you're doing the cambelt though, especially as you can do it anytime.

There, my argumentative bit for the day! :P ;D
