Wallace performance
« on: January 07, 2014, 09:10:43 AM »
I have a receipt for 2400 for a engine rebuild and 1200 receipt for a turbo .... these receipts are 10 years old however the car has only done about 800 miles since this - the receipt i have is a total price and doesnt list exactly what was done (this seems to have been lost over the years) .... my question is what is the likely spec of a 2.4k rebuild from 10 years ago i do remember that about 900 quid was for pistons and rods - under piston oil jets and a lightened and balanced crank were also in the cost but i have seperate receipts for flywheel and clutch etc so the 2.4k is purely engine internals

How long is a bit of string? :) It wouldn't be different to now imo, without knowing the absolute specifics of what was done you'll probably never know.

yeah i appreciate without stripping it there is no real way of telling .... i was thinking along the lines of what i know has been done what would of likely of been done, for example if the rods had been replaced and the crank lightened and balance then maybe arp bolts for big end and main caps? i also have a 800 receipt for head work (port, polish, cam reprofile, lifters, guides) then logic would tell me that arp studs would have been used for head and a decent head gasket used especially as the car runs a decent hybrid turbo and either stage 3 or 3.5 chips, a intercooler/charge cooler etc etc .... i have a rolling road printout for the car that shows a tad over 360bhp at wheels .... i have receipts for a recon f28, paddle clutch, rebuilt transfer box ... in all 22k worth of receipts in fact the only receipt i think im missing is the first page of the engine rebuild - the previous owner doesnt look like he cut any corners but what would be done on a let to allow it too handle 360 bhp
from memory
2400 = bottom end rebuild
of which
900 = new rods and pistons
220 = under piston jets
450 = labour

leaving 830 give or take for other work (including crank lighten/balance and block decked)
shocking thing is that in over 10 years of owning this calibra i have never drove it (i only brought it to break off someone on here) .... however with all this stuff and a 2.5k kitty to play with my LE should be a monster

hybrid turbo with phase 3 / 3.5 will see a maximum of 320hp at the crank (not wheels) with other things such as ported head, definitely not 360. If you have a printout of 360 then you must have a different turbo / manifold on the car and likely standalone engine management system, not the standard ecu.

If you definitely have a hybrid k16 turbo on your car and not a completely different spec turbo / manifold on it then it sounds like you had a different engine in the car before that has now been removed. Either that or the rolling road is for a different car.

It defo reads 361.4 at the wheels on the rolling road printout which is dated 3 weeks before I brought the car and has the reg number on it as well - but you could be right .. Turbo is not a standard it's defo a hybrid as it has a seperate waste gate however it is stock ecu apart from being chipped although it has a megasquirt and aquamist controllers and also two apexi things ... One is a avcr the other is a rsm that has big digital display with a speedo and rev counter and g force thingy .... To be fair I brought it 10 years ago to break and never drove it and although I have had cally turbos since 1995 I don't know a great deal about the tuning of them ... A lot of this I don't have a clue about hence why I asked for opinions on the likely spec of engine.... If you think that the engine might of been changed then I would have no way of knowing however the second page of engine receipt is dated a month before a receipt for engine fitting/recon box/clutch which in turn is 2 weeks before rolling road and as stated I got 3 weeks after the rolling road

I have just checked the engine number on engine receipt - log book - and number on block near box and they all read 14011941 .... Does that mean anything?

Hi mate

Yeah it sounds legit then, a hybrid turbo which you referred to is normally a standard turbo with modified internals. The fact you have a separate wastegate means it is a different turbo and using a modification such as aquamist then it sounds perfectly reasonable to be making those figures. Also megasquirt is a standalone engine management system I was talking about. Get some pics up :)

I have some pictures not good ones as everything is crammed into my unit but I don't use photobucket site ..... I think I would probably be lynched if u lot saw my le turbo with about a inch of dust on it .... Especially with my history with le27 .... The mega squirt thing connects to a injector on the top hat the aquamist connects closer to the inter cooler ..... It's all a bit bizarre to me there is a massive inter cooler with a electric water pump that connects to a small radiator there is a swirl pot a oil catch tank a water tank that connects to aquamist - the air box has gone and there is this huge air pipe that goes to a air filter like I have only ever seen on jap cars .... The dump valve I remember doesn't sound like a dump valve with a swoosh instead it sounds like a massive pfffffftttt that's loud enough to kill granny's with weak hearts - it actually looks more like a turbo watergate  - the turbo stage 3 k04 turbo 360 degrees (little o as in a angle) .... I know the standard turbos like wise a scorpion exhaust or kn or silicon hoses etc but beyond that all this is foreign to me

Or the other way round for username and password.

Or just use whatever image hosting site you usually use and copy and paste the relavant code.
