excellent service Milton Keynes
« on: August 05, 2014, 22:54:09 PM »
Just to report excellent service received from specialist Vauxhall expert.   Engine management light on for ages and he hooked it up to his diagnostic machine, read the codes, indicating oxgen sensor and solenoid valve.   Thanks to another CC member I picked up the 'no longer available' valve off Ebay, but today when he attempted to fit it all that was really wrong was that two identical terminal plugs had been transposed, giving wrong feeds.   Tidied up the wiring loom with original cloth insulating tape, fitted an additional filter, then picked me up from the station when I came to collect. Worth giving him a call if you have diagnostic problems and very reasonable at £45/hr

Next problem, where can I source new fuel lines as the originals are corroded and every Mot comes up with an advisory ?

Fuel lines aren't bought as complete measured & fitted parts, you buy them in length's just like brake lines & cut/bend them to fit. Neither fuel lines or brake lines are Calibra specific so you can get them pretty much anywhere, just keep the two connections at the fuel rail end to attach to the new lines.

I replaced mine with braided earlier in the year,

8 metres of 8mm stainless steel braided fuel hose (eBay in my case) with these clips at the fuel rail end (double ear 'O' clip),

& jubilee clips at the filter/tank end.

You don't have to fit braided of course but fuel line is fuel line & can be bought in any length in various flavours from pretty much anywhere.

Funnily enough my Calibra is currently in Bletchley, Milton Keynes. Hopefully not for much longer though!  ;)

Dan,  Thanks for the info on replacing the fuel lines   ... ebay next !   and from your pics I can get to use my axle stands that I made at evening classes 30 years ago !

Zodiac 245   ... yes we met in Harpenden High St as well and I photo'd yours at Classics in the Walled Garden last month.   I was late and paid on the day and parked on the end of Vauxhall Owners in the paddock but when I came back they'd packed up early and gone home, leaving me and a smart white Cally with a spoiler.   I did have some paintwork done after a Jeep reversed onto my bonnet in Sainsbury's car park, then I parked the passenger door  on a low brick wall, but so far that's all, still very original.   For a car that is 17 years old this week I have all the MoTs and nearly all the service history.   From How Many Left ? website they list only 51 Ecotec autos survive.   Probably the least collectable of all the models, but I still enjoy it every time I get in.   At Beaulieu last year I stuck a card in the window offering it for sale and two people were tempted, both who had Calibras before and regretted selling them, so in a way I was happy they didn't make me an offer I couldn't refuse.

I saw your Callie parked in the VOC area. The problem was that by the time I got to the paddock area most of the Vauxhalls had gone. I too have had people imply they are interested in buying but never what I would call a serious offer. Will PM you…
