1997 v6 running rough
« on: October 08, 2016, 20:41:16 PM »
hi there I am after some help and advice please.

my uncle has a 1997 v6 calibre, it seems to firing in the wrong order

we have done the following

new cambelt kit
new coil pack
new spark plugs
new HT leads (in the correct order)
ECU has been tested.

more info

after Cambelt was done about 2 weeks after he was driving heard a poping/bang noise so recoverd to the garage, it was found the coil pack had blew the bottom off it, this was the thinking it had spiked the ECU.

I cant get any diagnostic computers to communicate either.

once you get up to about 30/40 it drives good and has all the power there.

but lost at what to try next, I will be doing a compression check next weekend but pretty sure its not down to valves.

just hoping someone has had the same problem or any ideas.

thanks Craig

A 1997 should be an x25xe which Opcom works with (I have this engine and have successfully used Opcom) But either way paperclip test could help you read off any codes.

Ignition amplifier and use a paperclip next time :)
Lewis Hamilton said that winning his first race felt better than having sex. Kimi's reply to that was, Maybe he never had sex.

Hopefully you can prove it is the amp before replacing, they're not cheap - part number is 90444189 and you'll find it hiding under the battery tray. It's not the simplest thing to test but the most common fault is a bad earth.
