Re-upholstering.......is that even a word?
« on: December 11, 2011, 21:28:34 PM »
Hi.

The leather upholstery on my car is really, really dirty and the drivers bolster is split. I've been in communication with a renovator who says that for ?200 he'll repair the bolster and clean the (front) seats.

I actually think the leather is shot and was thinking it might be better to bite the bullet and get all the leather redone (seats and door panels.

Has anyone here had "magic" performed and had their leather interior revitalised? Has anyone had the leather replaced? If so, what kind of money did it cost? One fella said he'd "replace my front seats" with leather ones for ?500 but I got the impression that this was going to involve ripping out the existing ones and putting in some "boy racer" type leather ones.

Any recommendations for someone who'll recover the existing seats and door panels?

The big problem is that Vauxhall used thin leather which makes it wear and split relatively easily.

Proper retrim with decent leather is long term solution.

Short term, may be worth looking for seats from a scrappy/breaking Cally for a cheap set in better condition than your own.

Agree with Gav, i found a mint full interior for ?50, no bolster wear and the back seats look new. It all depends on what money you want to put into your calibra really mate.

Ok.

Spent some time and effort on cleaning the leather up.

It seems to have come up quite tidily (well, I think so anyway).

Am booking in the chap to come and take care of these two items. He says he'll repair the bolster and dye/repair the wear marks for 100 quid.

As you can see, the bolster is in a seriously bad way but the guy seems confident it's retrievable.

Here's hoping!

I know you can get a full interior for ?100...however you could easily have to have work done to that also?..I'd say its a fair price if he can bring it back to a decent looking condition however I would think black would be easier than cream to dye and get a decent result...ask to see some example of their work first?

Fella on VxON who does retrims quoted me about 700 for all the seats inc headrests, doorcards and gators, that would include materials, but might go up slightly depending on the cost of the leather, but once I had decided on a colour then he could give me a more accurate figure, obviously any carriage charges would be extra on top of that price also.

If I wanted quilted stitching or similar done that could be done at no extra cost, however currently he cant do any logo's/embroidery etc.
That was about a year or so ago
