Painting a f28 gearbox.
« on: November 27, 2011, 02:52:50 AM »
Right so ive finally gotten my engine/transmission stand.  Im going to put my f28 into it.  Ita already in out stand ing condition.  Its painted but.  Im going to wire brush it down then use wd40 to clena it and finally panel wipe.  I'll assume its cast alunimum??  If so then etch prime and use regular paint?  'd imagnine the gear box wouldnt get hot enough to need HTC?

Cheers

I'm definitely using an etch primer on mine - and probably 'Aluminium' VHT paint for top coats. Not sure about using WD40 for cleaning though - WD40 brings up aluminium pretty good in it's natural state if it is being left like that. But thinners is good for final cleaning - if you use WD40 you are just putting more oil back on the surface you are trying to clean ready for paint.
