Boost Gauge mounting
« on: November 30, 2011, 23:27:09 PM »
Just wondered if anyone has any good pictures of boost gauge (or any 52mm gauge) installs, has anyone removed the centre airvents before and put some there?

cheers, Lee

I removed the centre vent and fitted threee gauges.
Have a look on thread - page 2 I think:

Very trick Rod just what i'm after! was it difficult removing the vents? did you make the carbonfibre mounting plate yourself?

No problem removing vents - just pry them out and disconnect the rod that runs back to flap - be a bit delicate so as not to damage dash - it's easy to mark the vinyl  and/or crush the foam under it. I closed up the flap and put a layer of duct tape over it to keep it sealed.
I just made up a template of the gauge area and then cut and shaped a piece of 6mm thick Forex plastic to fit and then cut out the holes. The carbon was then applied and cut and finally the Forex was bonded into the dash using silicon.
I only did it that way so there were no visible fixing screws to the front - all wiring can be fitted from the rear if you remove the glove box...

Yeah I did consider putting them there but figured the oil pressure one is pretty handy and if it is there by default my as well keep it.

I had a quick google for pictures with gauges in the a-pillar just to get an idea how it would look, was thinking of 2 gauges (boost & AFR) then retrimmed in the standard cream leather.

Came across this image on mig

Just another option I was thinking of, so be either a-pillar or centre vents.

For what it's worth I have to say I prefer to see gauges in the general vicinity of the dash board TBH - I think pillar gauges are a bit.......

I really haven't tried mounting my boost gauge. Someone told me that it will improve the gauge. Maybe I'll try to ask some expects before I do the mounting. Great share!  ;)
