I don't see how people can get caught up in it so easily. I know it spreads quickly but there should be radio/TV annoucements showing the progress of the fire and where it is safe to flee to.

Well in fairness most of Australia have managed to avoid fatalities. ;)
Still, communicative devices don't work so well when they're on fire, and before they're on fire it's a case of "nah, won't come here too soon!"

Perhaps then it's a case of survival of the fittest :(

Eitherway, the weather is supposedly turning to their side now, as rain sets in etc..

I also noticed that, floods in the North and Fire in the south, wtf!

I don't see how people can get caught up in it so easily. I know it spreads quickly but there should be radio/TV annoucements showing the progress of the fire and where it is safe to flee to.

Because of rapid changes of wind strength and direction.  In a number of cases of people who did get out, they thought that they had hours before any fire might reach them, only to find that they had barely minutes to get out.  Others were trying to evacuate along, no doubt congested roads, when the firestorm overtook their vehicles and incinerated them inside!  Don't forget too that in some remote areas roads are dirt tracks so that there is a limit to how fast you can drive and that they often wind around to get up and down mountains.  Fire doesn't have to stick to roads, it can cross country.

Eitherway, the weather is supposedly turning to their side now, as rain sets in etc..

I also noticed that, floods in the North and Fire in the south, wtf!

That's right, it's coming towards the end of the 'Wet' (monsoon) season and there are apparently floods up around Townsville (where a croc apparently turned up in the town) and on the West Coast of Queensland.  Unfortunately the rain is still too far away from the fires and, although the temperatures are now falling, the winds are still strong enough to fan the flames and any embers.

It was 46º-47º around Melbourne.  The hottest temperature I've ever been in was in Australia, up in the Olgas, in the 'hot' centre - that was 47º and believe me that is blisteringly H-O-T!  The difference is that in the centre there isn't so much vegetation and certainly no forest to provide an abundance of fuel for fires.  Unfortunately, down around Victoria and in the Blue Mountains around Sydney, there are thousands of hectares of tinder dry forest.  They had similar extensive fires around Sydney a few years ago.

Interestingly, the Aboriginals used to control the extent of the vegetation across the whole continent by a systematic patchwork of burning, which not only limited fires from getting too out of control, but also encouraged the growth of fresh new, more edible vegetation.
