First pic is badged wrongly, so that will make it the Astra Coupe :)

Some have said that this is old news, prior reports were rumours but we believe that is has been confirmed that the new Calibra will be in production from 2011.

Photos may well not represent the new Calibra but they were supplied along with the AutoExpress article.

Whatever the photos were it is a nice looking car.

Don't think it will ever happen but I did say a few weeks ago that the insignia as a 3 door could be a replacement for the Calibra and people laughed at me....... Well?

I hope this doesn't go into production man. It'll be like when the Sex Pistols reformed, or when they re-made Clash Of The Titans. Just ruins the legacy.

Well the new Scirocco hasn't harmed the legacy, its a really popular car by all accounts.

Come on guys, lets be a little more positive - at least it sustains the name 'Calibra' and will bring us some new members!

Vauxhall have to try and sell as many cars as possible. Simple as. If the legacy of the Calibra (same as ford with the Capri) helps them make money in a dying new car market then why not.

There is not much difference with the corsa being remade, astra in a new shape and the same with the vectra.

People will try and defend the legacy of a certain model of car but let's face it if they decide to build it I would probably get one.

i love it to dude.  Its just the only similarities i can find with old and new is the shape to the side windows.  I know the picutres might not be accurtate to the model released.  But it is a sweet looking car but i wouldnt have named it calibra

rip the shell off the new one and stick the original calibra shell on instead, then you might have a car that keeps people on this site happy without breaking down ;D

Shame it bares NO resemblance to the original :-\

Would be interesting seeing the first new calibra owner sign up, can't see the tech threads all being about ICV's and CTS's.

the car looks clunky and over weight.

you would think they would have kept a few of the lines of the car, it just looks nothing like it. i really dont think this is going to be the new calibra! with astras you can see the changes take place through the models.

it just has no curves to it, and the lights are fitted to high and to deep into the wings.

also on the first and second photo it looks like someone has photoshoped those wheels on, and the top photo looks like a pug.

I HATE IT!

The first two pictures are of the New Astra Coupe, which is meant to be released towards the end of next year. The Insignia Coupe is also due for release, and its this car which is supposedly going to be badged as the Calibra. At least thats what the bods at Luton said a fortnight ago, I reckon I could get a decent discount on one  8)

There was an article in Auto Express around this time last year stating the rumour of a new Calibra, at that time it was rumoured that the new Astra Coupe was going to carry the Calibra name and keep it as an affordable car, the pics back then beared more of a resemblance to the original model.

If it's going to called Calibra then it should look like a natural progresion from the original - not just the latest euro lump with the name stuck on it.
This one is a winner - absolutely stunning.
Where did youy find the piccy JT?, I'd love to see a 360 view of it.

Well, as long as its got a Calibra name and looks like either of those and has the same impact as the original had at launch (looking so ahead of its time) I'll be buying one, gona start saving for the deposit now, the misses has given the go ahead and with vauxhalls lifetime warrenty, I would consider buying a brand new car, which was out of the question before. :-\

So it will be an Insignia with a Calibra badge!, if they are going to release a new Calibra it needs to be designed as such from inception to showroom, that is the only way it will ever do the original real justice, if they are just going to stick a badge on any of the new VX range they may as well stick it on the Movano

True, but wasn't the original Calibra basically a Mk3 Cavalier coupe?

No it just shared it's wheel base to save on production costs, there is no visual resemblance between the two apart from the dash board that is

What I'm trying to say is that the new car will probably be as close to the Insignia as the old one was to the Cavalier

Opel CEO and GM Europe topman Nick Reilly anounces come back of Opel Calibra in a new and bigger coupe. The inspiration source will be the in Geneve 2007 announced GTC conceptcar with a 320 BHP 2,8 liter V6 turbo. Opel cancelled their original Calibra model in 1997, over 250,000 where sold.

A new Calibra will never happen, Its just an idea on paper nothing more.

We'll quote that in 2011 :P

Translation of the above article:

Quote
Opel and GM Europe CEO CEO Nick Reilly, the arrival of a new
large Opel coupe confirmed.

As a major source inspritatie as the spiritual successor to the Opel
Calibration must be, in 2007, the GTC concept shown in Geneva.
The concept car had a strong 320pk 2.8-liter V6 turbo engine in the
to bottom, the same block recently made its way to the 9-5 and 9-4X
models has been found. The new coupe will however be more modest
engine fitted, using the series to direct

injected turbocharged engines in the Opel engine range has, which
new car about 15 percent less power than it should be
theoretical consumption of the Gran Turismo Concept model, says Reilly.

Opel Calibra deleted in 1997 from its model range. Of the model are
will total about 250,000 copies sold.

I don't like it either. If they were going to make a new Calibra then it would look like this tasty concept

I agree JT, that has a much bigger resemblance to the current calibra than this new fat arsed version.

At least it will have some bloody reliabilty I guess.

How they could justify badging it as a Calibra is beyond me. There is no sign of any evolution from the old Calibra and Vauxhall are just climbing on the sales bandwagon to
punt a few more sales through the showroom. If they wanted to do it properly then they should look to the Mini and Fiat 500 to see how its done.

if they re-modelled the monaro with a slightly lower powered engine 3L with turbo that would be sweet, but not the insignia that is a horrible looking car.

Agreed, to be honest I think GM missed a trick with the Monaro, this would have been a perfect opportunity to realease it as the new calibra, all it needed was some smaller engine variants and leave the v8 engines to go in the VXR8's.

Well the new Scirocco hasn't harmed the legacy, its a really popular car by all accounts.

Come on guys, lets be a little more positive - at least it sustains the name 'Calibra' and will bring us some new members!

Most car makers can't come up with something original anymore, it's just copies from the old stuff, just like music :S

Due to the larger engine capacity and as a result a larger price tag, you won't be seeing many new members signing up with one even if they do make a newer version. Infact it's likely that you will see the arrival of a ClubcalibraMK2.com/net etc

I'd thought we where going ECO ? LOL !!! . Lately a friend of mine got the Audi A1 from the showroom for a testdrive, it's a 1.4 turbo kicking out 122 hp, doing 1:10 ( 1 liter to 10 kilometer ), that's rediculous these times! That's the same a 2.0 16v c20xe from a decade ago uses. Where being bullsh*tted hard with the ECO car talk. car are getting heavier and heavier, and their engins bigger and complexer, eco? yeah my arse. Money scheme for the rich? YES.
