Announcement: Do you want ClubCalibra to expand?
« on: November 22, 2010, 15:03:19 PM »
With very minimal effort and inconvenience to users, a new forum section can be added along with it's own subset of separate forums to cater for the other most popular car manufacturers - this would allow discussion about cars other than the Calibra!

The appearance of the new section would be similar to the current 'Regional/International ClubCalibra' section, with it's subforums just below the main link.

It would help us to retain our members that sell their Cally's and move on - it would also bring new expertise and experience to the site! The focus on the Calibra would NEVER be lost, but we are aware that to keep busy, we have to cater for a wider range of vehicles.

So, what do you think?

TBH Ash, I can see where you are coming from, but there are numerous websites out there to already cover this. Maybe a Tech part for none Calibra vehicles would be a compromise.

I think it would be a great idea as a lot of current members have moved on from the Calibra but are still on the site and we have lost some members who left when they sold there cars

Me no like, considering we are a model specific site I think were doing dandy honestly! Would I log on to read what some oik is doing to their Corsa or Saxo, erm no frankly! Too 'Max Power' for me. And lets face it there are plenty that cater for all. If someone does have a non Cally issue they'd post anyway :)

I usually ask my Astra related questions here due to not really liking other websites.

Im not sure if sub forums are needed or maybe just a 'non calibra tech' type thing.

Maybe an 'Ex-Calibra' forum to post pics of your new car, mods you're doing, washed it pics etc. Can't do any harm and I know of a few people like myself who have different cars and share them on here.

I agree with Alz to an extent but 99.9% of the time when people sell their Calibr they move onto something nicer rather than a Saxo or Daihatsu Copen,. I like to think when I'm sharing pics of my new cars people are still taking an interest just because it isn't a Calibra.

Don't have a problem with it.

However, I believe there should only be one section though, for 'non-calibra' related items. It should be a small part of the site, this is still primarily a Calibra forum.

Most people talk about other cars anyway in Random, so I wouldn't be bothered if the site stayed how it is :)

I think one sub section for non calibras would be good for the exact reasons Phil stated. I'm not being biased but I personally enjoyed seeing Phil's Audi being restored and repaired and would like to think that one day I'd have an outlet to show off any projects I may have to like minded members on here.

One key thing alot of you overlook is that yes there are other forums that cater for other cars but the reason the ex calibra owners stick around is the cc community. I'd appreciate praise or criticism more from the likes of Bad kid, chip, barra, Dan, Gav etc than some chav or pipe smoking piss stained pensioner on another forum.

Considering 95% of posts on here are non car related or some form of bitching and moaning, would it not be fair to suggest that the life span of Calibra's and relevant topics are slowly dying.

In the past few months, there have been only a handful of decent Calibra projects on the go. The site can remain open to support these few members, but will ultimatley end up like a chat site and the chances of attracting members will be less likely.

If we are going to get more decent car projects on the go such as the Audi RS4, the turbo'd Corsa and a few more I forget, Im sure they can run alongside the Calibra theme.

Being ClubCalibra means the site will always be aimed at Calibra's, but there is nothing wrong at all in my opinion with attracting new members or trying to at least keep old members with a non Calibra forum/ topic. I like many may never own a Calibra ever again. I may like them, but I can buy better for what I can afford. So technically there is nothing from keeping us here.

It would be great to see more car related posts and builds, and less of the rubbish that gets posted. It is a car forum, not a social networking site. And this is the only way we are going to expand and improve.

There are more calibras being scrapped, stripped, wrecked etc than there are calibras being put back on the roads, inevitably this means that calibras will become more scarce resulting in less new members as there are no cars to be purchased. Infact it will be the demise of community on here and .net over time if the forum is kept strictly as a calibra resource that only allows tech talk.
This leads to another issue in itself tho, if you allow loads of non calibra projects to appear on the main forum, this will basically be a non model specific forum :-\

Anyway Ings, not to have a pop or anything but you're hardly a big contributor to cc anyway.

Agreed, its the one/two liners that interrupt a decent thread that frustrate me - my advice, if you're going to reply to a thread, ask yourself whether anyone else reading your reply would really care, or find it useful.

I think this site caters well as a specific car site as that is what attracts members compared to generic car forums.  I believe that any discussion regarding other cars is currently covered in the 'car related chat' section and it is regularly used for this, so i see no problem with it being left as it is tbh, everyone seems happy to put anything in that part of the forum if they want to discuss other cars :)

It won't be long before this place becomes that with people reminiscing over a car that was once called a Calibra, and becoming rarer and rarer with less and less owners :)

Every year the Calibra gets rarer and the likelihood of members signing up diminishes.

If we had nothing but technical threads and projects there would be a lot less site traffic.

We all hate too much spam but we do need some to generate traffic.

Would it be right to say that this is a natural progression and maybe its just hard for some people to admit it. As stated already, Calibras are getting much more scarce and will only continue to over the years.  Its ClubCalibra so its focus is obvious but there can be no harm in opening the door a little wider

to be honest, with the number of people making track cars on here and also with the link between several members on here with other forums such as vauxsport, i can see this site expanding in the coming years to encompass both well maintained rare calibras and their counterparts in other forms with closer ties to other sites.

One down, one to go in that case :P (sorry, couldn't help myself)

ClubCalibra will be around for a long long time in some shape/form - there are specific sites for old Escorts, Beatles, and other models that survive even with a minimal fanbase.

Not old news at all Robbie, note the date in this article:

That story and pic has been doing the rounds for over 18 months, The concept has been on paper and hasn't gone any further.

I know i'm new here but I chose this site because it's just the Calibra, on lots of websites for Vauxhalls or more cars, the Calibra just gets swamped out by Corsas and Astras, we're all fans of those cars I'd assume but it's nice to have somewhere to speak about the Calibra, and just that. As is, it's easy to find all the guides, peoples photos, meet information  etc etc. I'm not doubting you admins would implement it smoothly and subtley, but it's your call.

Just thought i'd add my bit.

Hey thanks for the welcome :) I joined here a week or so ago, but i've been away for a week to a tiny Island off the coast of Shetland, doing runway repairs on an Aistrip, it's called Foula and it has 29 Residents  :o. Bizaare place!

Yeah, it's no problem. I'm kind of glad it's sticking to the Calibra, remember with different cars, come different crowds, it would be a great shame to come here and witness it being infested with the 'hothatch 1.2 Londis crew mate' types.  :D

This is why we won't stray away from the Calibra side.

You're more than welcome to talk about other cars or pretty much anything in the Random Chit Chat section, that's why it's there. But this is a Calirba site and most of the talk will be Calibra related.

Well, until it get's spammed of course lol.

There are plenty of Vauxhall sites for people who want to talk about a broader range of cars. For example my main car and soon to be only car is a Mk4 Astra. I spend time on AOC talking about Astras, and time on here talking about everything else.

Hope you're enjoying your time on here Ripper. Spend the time looking through the sections or use the search feature. There are a lot of threads about a lot of things!!

Im not big on this idea, the whole reason I was drawn to this club was that it was a dedicated Cally site. Sorry to those who disagree

Succinct, to the point and no room for argument on what Gav thinks - and I agree 100%.

This is why we won't stray away from the Calibra side.

You're more than welcome to talk about other cars or pretty much anything in the Random Chit Chat section, that's why it's there. But this is a Calirba site and most of the talk will be Calibra related.

Well, until it get's spammed of course lol.

I'll be sure to do so! Thanks for the welcome!

Right this thread was started in Nov, we are staying as we are as already said.

Thread Locked.
Lewis Hamilton said that winning his first race felt better than having sex. Kimi's reply to that was, Maybe he never had sex.
